Average time to visit
The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

Ngare Serian is located on the banks of the Mara River in the Mara North Conservancy, a beautiful private wilderness area just outside the Maasai Mara. The reserve consists of more than 74,000 acres and has just 11 camps within its boundaries.
Ngare Serian is the perfect hideaway in the Mara North Conservancy in the Maasai Mara. It is wonderful for guests looking for a romantic and peaceful escape. It is also the most fabulous camp to take exclusively for family gatherings or large groups of friends. There are four spacious tented suites and each of these are situated on a hard wood deck with a veranda overlooking the Mara River.
Serian camps are dedicated to providing the best safari experience possible and so offer private game vehicles to their guests to ensure that each group can go their own way and go on as long or short game drives as they wish. Vehicles can be loaded up with picnics should the wildlife be so thrilling that you wish to stay out all day. There is also a huge private walking concession adjacent to the camp where your guide can take you into the heart of the bush on foot. There is a treehouse located not far from the camp which can either be a wonderful spot for lunch or an adventurous place to camp out for a night and watch the wildlife through the state of the art night vision camera. Hot air ballooning or helicopter rides over the Mara are also available and are a thrilling way to see the landscape from a new perspective.
The tents themselves are so spacious they should really be described as marquees and are light in colour giving them a lovely natural and airy feel and then decorated inside with comfortable antiques giving the camp a real home away from home feel. The beautiful sunken baths provide wonderful views of the river so you can relax in the tub whilst really appreciating your surroundings.
4 tented suites with en-suite bathrooms on wooden decks with views over the Mara river. Each suite contains a huge four poster bed dominating the room and there is the option to add additional beds as needed.
Children are welcome at the camp although some activities will be age restricted.
Laundry service, massages, private vehicles, treehouse for camping.
4WD game drives, night drives, bush walks, horse riding, hot air ballooning, helicopter rides, treehouse camping, bush baths, picnics, bush breakfasts and sundowners.

Just arriving at Ngare Serian is an adventure I had to traverse the rope bridge across the Mara River to arrive into camp. The camp had four stunning and spacious tented suites which are dotted along the river so it was lovely to fall asleep listening to the rushing water and the grunt of the resident pod of hippo.
Guests at Ngarte Serian automatically have a private guide and 4x4 for the duration of their stay so you have the flexibility to get up when you like and if you are enjoying a sighting you can stay there all day if you like. The standard of guiding at both Ngare Serian and Serian is very high and all the guides have continuous training and it really shows. Our guide managed to track a young male leopard in a rocky kopje so we had a wonderful afternoon watching him eating.
We all ate dinner together and it was lovely to meet the resident photographer, who they have staying at various times over the year who can be booked to go out with guests and help improve their photography and get more out of their cameras.

From the moment we stepped across the rope bridge and were greeted by the camp dog, Wifi, we loved Ngare Serian. It's a beautiful lodge set on the banks of the Mara River which rushes by, and is small and intimate with just 4 chalets, beautifully designed on wooden decks. This is the perfect place to explore the Mara, and the activities here are numerous - take a walk with your Maasai guide and tracker, enjoy game drives further afield, enjoy a picnic in a perfectly secluded picnic spot, or spend a night out in the Nest - Serian's treehouse about a twenty minute walk from camp. A brilliant aspect of Ngare Serian is that all their guests are given a private guide and vehicle - meaning exclusive and tailored game-viewing; if you want to spend an hour watching elephants bathing, this is perfectly possible.
Game drives in the Maasai Mara
Exploring this iconic ecosystem in an adapted, open 4x4 safari vehicle with your professional safari guide is one of the best ways to get up close to the huge volume and wide diversity of wildlife in the Mara.
Maasai Mara Balloon Safari
Experience the magic of floating over the plains of the Maasai Mara in a Hot Air Balloon. Balloon safaris are a fantastic way to experience the vast beauty of the Mara and provide exceptional photo opportunities with spectacular lighting and scenery.
Private Safari Guide and Game Drive Vehicle
Ensure an exclusive and totally tailored safari experience by booking a private safari guide and game drive vehicle. A private guide gives you the flexibility to go where you want, when you want. If you have specific interests this is an absolute must.
Sleep in Serian's Nest
Set high in an Elephant Pepper tree, in the heart of Serian's private walking area, and enjoying views down to the Mara River is "The Nest". There's plenty of space for the whole family to siesta during the day or spend a memorable night out in the bush.
The Great Migration
The Maasai Mara is famous for being home to one of nature’s most spectacular events: the Great Migration. Millions of wildebeest cross from Tanzania’s Serengeti to Kenya’s Mara in search of better grazing.
Walking in the Maasai Mara
Exploring the African bush from outside a safari vehicle is a wonderful experience. Get away from the noise of the 4x4 and, accompanied by your professional safari guide, begin to pick up on the smaller details of the African bush.
