At a Glance
This itinerary takes in the key sites of Jordan's fascinating history, whilst still leaving plenty of time for relaxation at the end of the trip
It is always worth taking the King’s Highway to Petra rather than the newer Desert Highway, as it winds through glorious wadis (valleys) and small towns. There are a number of interesting places to stop, such as the Crusader Castle at Kerak or the religious sites of Mt Nebo or Madaba.
Even Wadi Rum is bursting with history, being the location in which Lawrence of Arabia's Arab Revolt was launched
Petra is quite simply incredible, and should feature highly on anyone's bucket list
Spending a night in the desert gives an immense feeling of space and tranquillity
Jordan's spas utilise Dead Sea materials, excellent for recuperating at the end of a busy itinerary

Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
For a small country, Jordan has an extraordinary range of climates. The best time to visit climate-wise is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the daytime temperatures aren't too extreme. April is probably the best month, when temperatures are warm and wildflowers are in bloom. March can be cold and rainy in the north but is balmy by the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea.

Days 1-3: Amman
Your journey begins in Jordan's capital, Amman; a bustling city full of life and best explored on foot, where you can visit the ancient Citadel and Roman Theatre alongside your knowledgeable guide. Days 3-5: Petra
Three and a half hours drive away you will find the famous ruins of Petra. Petra is simply awe-inspiring; a hidden canyon concealing incredible temples and caves carved into the famous rose-red stone. A walk up the 1,000 or so steps to the Monastery is certainly worth the effort, and there is plenty more to see throughout the site. Your local guide will be able to guide you through the Siq for that iconic first glimpse of the Treasury and will show you around the key sites in the central area, perhaps sharing a few hidden secrets as you go.
Accommodation: The Old Village Resort (2 nights)

Days 5-9: Dead Sea - Jordan Side
A final three-and-a-half-hour drive takes you to the shores of the Dead Sea, 400-metres below sea-level. This area has drawn people to its ozone rich air, medicinal waters and UV filtered sunlight for centuries and is the perfect place to unwind after your adventures in Amman, Petra and Wadi Rum. You can relax and enjoy your final four nights here, perhaps indulging in a spa treatment and going for a float in the salty water.
