Rome enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate. Summers (from June to September) are hot and dry with temperatures often soaring to 37°C. High humidity is also common, particularly in July and August. Winter tends to be moderate, at least by northern European standards, with temperatures averaging around 10°C to 15°C between December and February. Spring (March to June) and early autumn (September and October) are the best times to visit Rome, with lovely blue skies and mild temperatures. November and December are the two wettest months.
Starting in mid-June, the summer rush really picks up, and from July to mid-September the Rome teems with visitors. August is the worst month: Not only does it get uncomfortably hot, muggy, and crowded, but the entire country goes on vacation at least from August 15 to the end of the month (many Italians take off the entire month). Many hotels, restaurants, and shops are closed.

Set slightly away from central Rome, yet close to the relaxed, fashionable and authentic feeling Trastevere area, the Gran Melia Roma is a resort hotel in a city. It has a lovely (non-heated) outdoor pool and great outside areas as well as a spa. The restaurant Ossomoro is very stylish with deep claret-coloured velvet sofas and the food is sensational. The large lounge/bar has a DJ and is very stylish and popular with outside visitors great for a fun, buzzy start or end to your evening. Rooms are very comfortable and, although they are not as super stylish as the bar and restaurant (or perhaps quite as much as some of the other high-end options in central Rome) the hotel offers great value and a lovely atmosphere. A wonderful option for couples and families, especially in the summer months to escape the heat of the city and relax by the pool.

Being located just outside of Rome's shopping and historic centre, this hotel enjoys a wonderful feeling of space, very unusual for a city hotel. With beautiful gardens, a good-sized outdoor pool, a spa and several bar and restaurant areas, this is the perfect place to enjoy a longer city break, with the option to either explore everything that Rome has to offer or simply to relax at the hotel.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and many can accommodate extra beds or sofa beds for families. Interconnecting options are also available. The food at the fine dining Ossimoro restaurant was delicious, and they pride themselves on including several traditional Roman dishes to choose from. Service was faultless in both the restaurant and at reception - I couldn't have felt better looked after!
