Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Florence is an exciting place to visit at any time of the year, and most attractions are open all year round. The best time to visit Florence is in May, early June, late September and October. Days during those months are usually warm, and quite long. July and August are hot and humid with many tourists. Since most Italians leave their hot cities in the summer, many restaurants are closed in Florence.
Winter can get cold, particularly January but it is quiet. Temperatures are more favourable in the spring and autumn months.
Insider's View
To start planning your holiday to Continentale
Description
Overlooking the Ponte Vecchio, the vibrant and dynamic Continentale hotel is the place to be and be seen in Florence. Architect Michele Bonan has created a unique retrospective of Italian fashion and film of the 1950s.
Owned by the Ferragamo family, the Continentale pays homage to the happy-go-lucky feel of the 50s and 60s with bubble-gum pink accents for a totally zeitgeist experience in the middle of the romantic Italian city.
The 43 guest rooms are lovingly appointed with sheer-draped beds, light wood furniture on oak floors and flowing curtains that catch the Tuscan light. The interior designer created oak desks and chairs trimmed with leather and steel to evoke the feeling of a 19th-century steamer trunk. Simple and functional bathrooms gleam in white with Corian sinks elegantly perched on oak bases. Black and white photographs taken by fashion designers such as Pucci and Fabiani in the 50s and 60s in Florence adorn the guest rooms.
La Terrazza Rooftop Bar is the crowning glory of the Continentale, with spectacular 360 degree views across the Florentine skyline and surrounding hillside, best enjoyed with a drink in hand.
Accommodation
Continentale has 43 1950s style inspired rooms and suites. The rooms are decorated and furnished in light and airy colours. On the walls are pictures by great Florentine fashion photographers and the furniture has been created by international designers giving each room a special and glamorous feel.
Childcare
Children of all ages are welcome to come and stay at Continentale. Cots and extra beds can be added to some of the room. However, there are no other facilities available for children.
Facilities
Continentale does not have a restaurant, however they will happily recommend and make reservations at the excellent choice of restaurants nearby. Guests can also enjoy meals in other outposts of the Lungarno Dining Collection, whether at the Michelin-starred Borgo San Jacopo at Hotel Lungarno or at the more casual Caffe dell'Oro at Portrait Firenze.
Activities
With its central position on the famous Ponte Vecchio, Continentale is a great location to stay at to explore the wonderful city of Florence. Florence is bursting with art galleries, striking buildings and treasure crammed churches. The hotel will help to arrange any tours you may want to go on and advise you on activities suitable for your preferences to make your stay as enjoyable and as easy as possible.
