Anne White (Staff)
I absolutely love this hotel. It oozes elegance and luxury but in a quiet understated way. After I'd battled with navigating my car down the tiny streets, a warm smile from the reception staff and a cool glass of orange juice on the beautiful terrace was the perfect tonic. The stress melted away as I soaked up the views across the bay and on to Mount Etna.
Situated literally below the greek ampitheatre, the hotel is perched on the side of the mountain. It has surprisingly extensive gardens (6 acres) where you can escape to the shade of a tree and enjoy the peace.
I ate in the Giardino di Bacco pool restaurant which is very pleasant. The pizza was delicious - the secret, I was informed, was passed on from the chef at their sister hotel on the Amalfi coast - Naples is the birthplace of pizza afterall.
The swimming pool is outside and is relatively small. The hotel also has a small wellness area where you can have beauty treatments and massages.
My room was elegantly decorated with hand printed silks, classical furniture, soft colours, a marble bathroom and a parquet floor. This simple, classic interior design is seen throughout the hotel.
