Snow Leopard Lodge is located at just under 4,000 metres above sea level in the remote Ulley Valley and is the only dedicated wildlife lodge in the area of Ladakh. The lodge is simple but provides everything you need to explore this spectacular area.
Nestled into the landscape at the heart of Ulley Village, Snow Leopard Lodge offers homestay style accommodation with just 6 bedrooms. Here you really have the chance for a special and immersive experience as you will be living with a Ladakhi family giving an intimate insight into their lifestyle in this harsh and extreme landscape. The area surrounding the Snow Leopard Lodge has only recently been developed and explored for snow leopard watching and has the benefit of being at the centre of three valleys, under the radar for mass tourism, and known for supporting several snow leopards.
Alongside the bedrooms, the guests all share the large, warm kitchen in the heart of the Ladakhi home. Bathrooms are shared and hot water is provided in morning and evening for bathing. The lodge can not be classed as luxurious but provides a clean and comfortable stay full of character and warmth from your hosts. What does make this adventure luxury is the chance to experience this incredible landscape and view these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
Both local and international cuisine is served at the lodge but due to the remoteness of the area mobile phones and internet do not work. Electricity at times can be erratic but all rooms do have gas heaters.
We think that Snow Leopard Lodge is a brilliant option for an intrepid traveler who is looking for that once in a lifetime experience and for who getting off the beaten track is what life is all about.
There are six rooms available at the lodge. All rooms offer twin accommodation except for one single room which comes equipped with an ensuite bathroom. The remaining five rooms are not ensuite but instead have the use of three shared bathrooms.
Snow Leopard Lodge can accommodate children however due to the altitude it not recommend for children under the age of 12.
The Snow Leopard Lodge provides clean and comfortable accommodation with beautiful and warm hospitality. All meals, with the possibility of Ladakhi, Indian and Continental cuisine, are served in the main dining room which is accented by local brass, silver and copper ornaments. As you are staying in a family home, if you are so inclined, you will have the chance to help with the cooking providing a fantastic opportunity to get even more immersed in the local culture and life. Alongside this there is a beautiful communal space to unwind resplendent with beautiful and vibrant rugs and seating areas in which to relax after exhilarating days exploring the surrounding landscapes.
The wild and remote location of Snow Leopard Lodge means that you are surrounded by wildlife which are constantly viewable from the house itself. On your doorstep you are treated to sightings of Ibex, Himalayan fox, Himalayan Griffon, golden eagles and even wolves.
From your base at the lodge you will have the chance to explore the three valleys around on foot and by car with your expert guide. Not only is the wildlife here spectacular but as you are venturing into a virtually untouched region the natural landscapes that you are greeted with are mesmerising.
