Galapagos Safari Camp: A Wildlife Paradise for Families

Glamping season is finally here. Summer is the perfect time to get out in the great outdoors and experience nature. The Galapagos Safari Camp in Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands, is the ideal place to introduce you little ones to the splendor of wildlife. It’s an experience your family will never forget.

A naturalist’s paradise, the Galapagos Islands are a magnificent, untamed archipelago off the coast of Ecuador. The Galapagos are so enchanting, that after visiting the islands, Michael and Stephanie Mesdag gave up their lives in Europe and decided to open the Galapagos Safari Camp there. This camp is the perfect place for a unique, exciting, educational family vacation. Michael and Stephanie raised their own children at the camp, so you know that you’re in good hands.

Located in the lush highlands of Santa Cruz Island, the camp is designed after classic safari camps in Botswana, and provides comfortable accommodations that beautifully blend into their nature-rich surroundings. Since the camp is enveloped in a national park, you’ll feel like you are completely part of the wilderness. It’s this immersion in nature that makes the Galapagos so special. You won’t find many places in the world this spectacular.

The Staff at the Galapagos Safari Camp make an effort to really get to know their guests. Everything is personalized to your family, and every member’s different interests. From something as small as knowing how you like to take your coffee in the morning, to whether your little ones would prefer art classes over a nature hike, the staff makes sure to understand your family’s specific preferences. With so many amazing options, it’s hard to know what to choose to do. These are three of our favorite experiences that the entire family will love at the Galapagos Safari Camp.

1. Life Style Fishing

At the Galapagos Safari Camp there’s a huge emphasis on sustainability and conservation. Due to its environmental impact, commercial fishing in the Galapagos was abolished in 1998. Now these boats can be rented for an once-in-a-lifetime fishing expedition around the Islands. An experienced crew will take your family out on a comfortable ship and teach you the trade of artisanal fishing. The camp will even prepare the fish you catch for your family to enjoy. It’s the ultimate farm-to-table service. The crew will also take you snorkeling, and will lead you to the best, secluded, private beaches around the islands. Your kids will be blown away by the sea life that they’ll see here, and a shark may even jump right out of the water and pluck your fresh catch right out of your hands.

2. The Chocolate Presentation

For those with a sweet tooth, checking out the chocolate presentation is a can’t miss activity. The camp has a local chocolatier on hand, making Galapagos-style chocolate, using Ecuadorian cacao. You and your children can participate in the fun process and learn special techniques. The camp also offers ceviche classes and baking classes that are sure to entertain all budding chefs.

3. The Nature

The biggest draw of the Galapagos Safari Camp is the wildlife. Your children will be bragging to their friends for years about all of the fascinating animals that they saw. Here you can kayak, hike, surf, and snorkel with seals and sharks. Though the wildlife is abundant here, it’s not like a zoo, everything happens organically, so be observant, listen to your expert guides, and be patient, you’ll be rewarded with sightings of iguanas, tortoise, penguins, and the extremely unique blue-footed booby.

The Galapagos Safari Camp is one of the few places left in the world where you can escape from civilization and still have modern luxury. The staff here goes above and beyond to ensure that your family has the most memorable experience possible. If you’re looking for adventure in a stunning ecosystem, the Galapagos Islands is the ideal destination for your next family vacation.
