Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

There is no better way of encapsulating a true wilderness experience than this combination of wild areas. From the unspoilt gem of Kafue, Zambia’s largest National Park, to the ultimate fly-camping adventure in the Lower Zambezi. We’ve hand selected authentic bush camps in prolific wildlife areas and combined immersive activities guided by experts, so that we can promise even the most experienced safari enthusiasts a remarkable trip.

  1. Fly to Lusaka

Your holiday begins as you fly into Lusaka to catch your light aircraft flight to Kabalo Airstrip in Liuwa National Park.

  2. Days 1-5: Kafue National Park

Flying overnight into Lusaka, you’ll be met at the airport by your private driver and transferred to Kafue National Park. Your destination is Ntemwa-Busanga Camp, an authentic bush camp positioned on the southern edge of Busanga Plains, a remote wilderness area containing a multitude of habitats.  With just four tented rooms, this incredibly personal camp is the perfect base to immerse yourself in the wild.
Over the next 4 days you’ll venture out into the bush in an open safari vehicle in search of game amongst riverine thickets and open floodplains. Feel your excitement build as you follow a cheetah as she prowls the land for prey. Watch in awe at a huge herd of buffalo, kicking up the dust in the evening sun and spot antelope such as roan and sable grazing the land. Feel the thrill of being in a leopard’s presence, as she gazes out at you from the high branch of a tree on a night game drive. This is some of the extraordinary wildlife that you may encounter in Busanga Plains.

Accommodation: Ntemwa Busanga Camp (4 nights)

  3. Days 5-8: Zambia

This morning you will be transferred to Musekese Camp, which will be an adventure in itself as you game drive through the park, encountering animals along the way. The camp has a stunning location on the edge of a grassy lagoon in a remote area of the park. After settling into your home, which oozes authentic bush-camp charm, you’ll head out on your first safari activity. Enjoy a boat safari and drift along the Kafue River, watching a herd of elephants crossing along the water ahead. In the evening, you’ll head back to camp and enjoy a hearty home-cooked dinner under the star-flecked night sky, listening to the sounds of the bush in the distance.
Throughout your time here, you will encounter some incredible species, such as cheetah, lion and many of the 20 species of antelope that the Kafue is famed for. Let your excitement wander as you navigate this land on foot, with an eyeline view of herds of zebra, or view a leopard from an open safari vehicle. Or sit back and relax at the Treehouse Hide, with an ice-cold beer beside you and binoculars in hand and see what nature presents to you.

    Accommodation: Musekese Camp (3 nights)

  4. Days 8-12: Lower Zambezi

Today you’ll journey out of the park and fly east to the Lower Zambezi National Park, one the most scenic safari destinations in Africa. Once landed at Jeki Airfield, you’ll be met off the plane and game driven to your fly-camp, Chula, which has a magical location surrounded by hidden lagoons and incredible wildlife. Settling into camp with a revitalising drink in hand, you’ll feel the palpable serenity of your surroundings as you listen to bird calls. Your 2 nights at Chula Camp will be spent out of the vehicle, feeling your senses awaken as you walk through the forests and pass the Zambezi river, led by an expert walking guide. Lions and leopards are common in this area so keep your eyes peeled! Afternoons will be spent floating down the river on a canoe and boat, enjoying sundowners in the glow of the setting sun.
On day 3 you will rise early to the dawn chorus of birds calls and head out on a walking safari along one of the river channels and onto a scenic spot for a bush breakfast before arriving at your next fly-camp, Kutali. This has a very different atmosphere to Chula, encased by winterthorn forests along the Zambezi. For your final two nights here, you will enjoy boat trips and walking safaris and also be able to game drive on the mainland. A real highlight is being able to practice catch and release fishing of Tigerfish from the pontoon boat.

Accommodation: Tusk & Mane (4 nights)

  5. Fly home

This morning you will have one last venture into the wild before being transferred to the airport in time for your onward flight.
