Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The main time to visit the Liuwa Plain is between August and December, the drier months of the year, where access is possible. As the dry season wears on, game-viewing becomes even more rewarding as the grass is trampled and grazed lower, and wildlife concentrates around water sources. In November, the rains begin, short and sharp, with dramatic cloud formations and storms in the late afternoon. Around this time of year, the pans burst into life with flowers carpeting the ground. It's also an exciting time of year wildlife-wise, as herds of blue wildebeest move in on their annual migration from Angola. From December to April, the plains are in flood, causing problems for access for visitors, but providing life to the wildlife that remains here year-round.
