Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Zambia and Malawi have a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons. This itinerary is designed to fall within one of Zambia's most beautiful seasons - the lush, green and warm time at the end of the rains, before the bush starts to dry up. The weather will be warm and balmy with clear skies and sunshine, and cooler evenings and mornings. A perfect time for lovely game viewing and relaxing on the beach in the heat of the day.

Let us take you on an adventure through Zambia, a country that offers some of Africa’s most diverse and dramatic wildlife encounters. From a remote safari experience in the Lower Zambezi to action-packed game viewing in the South Luangwa, we’ll then fly you over to Lake Malawi for a chic beach escape. We’ve hand selected some of the most stylish camps and lodges so you can explore these wild places of Africa in luxury, with some enviable experiences to enjoy along the way.

  1. Fly to Lusaka

  2. Days 1-5: Lower Zambezi

Flying overnight into Johannesburg and connecting to Lusaka, you’ll then hop onto a light aircraft into the Lower Zambezi. Feel your excitement build as you fly low over this spectacular wild area of Zambia and land in the wilderness. Your guide will greet you off the plane and game drive you to Old Mondoro, your home for the next four nights. This carbon neutral  camp of only 5 chalets has an incredible location along the mighty Zambezi river. With no fences surrounding the camp, you can watch elephants ambling through from the comfort of your private veranda or from the tranquillity of your outdoor bath.
This afternoon venture out on a game drive and feel the thrill of getting up close to a herd of majestic elephants or a pack of the elusive African wild dog, before stopping for a scenic sundowner as the sky begins to turn vivid orange. As darkness unfolds, game drive back to camp and listen to the sound of hyenas cackling in the distance and scan the bush for the nocturnal species.
Due to the river running through the park, there are a number of water-based activities you can experience during your time here. Try your hand at catch and release tiger fishing, drift down the Zambezi on a boat or canoe, observing pods of hippos and animals drinking from the water’s edge.  If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, embark on a walking safari led by an expert guide and feel your senses awaken as you learn to track wildlife.

    Accommodation: Old Mondoro (4 nights)

  3. Days 5-8: South Luangwa National Park

This morning after a delicious breakfast cooked up for you out in the bush, you’ll catch a flight to the South Luangwa National Park. This enchanting wilderness with the Luangwa River running through it is a haven for wildlife and your camp, Puku Ridge, quite like the previous camp, has an impressive location looking onto a private floodplain and watering hole. Game viewing will be effortless as you gaze out from the serenity of your private plunge pool on your elevated deck. Tantalise your tasted buds with a delicious lunch, perhaps paired with fine South African wine, before heading out on your afternoon game drive. Wildlife viewing here is incredible and you can even feel the thrill of following a pack of African wild dogs or view a leopard draped along the high branch of an acacia tree. You’ll then stop for a gin and tonic or ice-cold beer at a scenic sundowner spot, watching elephants and giraffes silhouetted against the dusty horizon.
During your time here make the most of your wildlife encounters, by heading out on walking safari’s led by highly trained guides and scanning the bush at night whilst on a night game drive, in search for the rare, nocturnal species.

Accommodation: Puku Ridge Tented Camp (3 nights)

  4. Days 8-13: Likoma Island, Lake Malawi, Malawi

Island beach-bliss awaits you. Today you will leave Zambia and fly to Malawi where you’ll stay at Kaya Mawa, located on Likoma island in the heart of Lake Malawi. This chic beach retreat has the most magical location on a secluded, tropical island surrounded by pristine, crystal-clear water. Your days here can be as laidback or energetic as you wish. Take to the glistening water on kayak or SUP and explore hidden coves and caves. Sail out and plunge into the water to snorkel amongst the incredible marine life and be astonished by the pristine visibility. Explore the friendly island of Likoma and wonder through the roads to the cathedrals and market stalls. For adrenaline junkies, book a kite surfing session at Kaya Mawa’s kite surfing centre, the only one on the island. Or while away the hours on the golden sand beach reading your favourite book, taking the occasional trip to the beach bar for a revitalising cocktail.
