Once a private home, An Lam Saigon is now a relaxed boutique hotel just 25 minutes from the centre of Saigon by boat. It's perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle at the end of a day exploring.
An Lam Saigon is ideal if you'd rather avoid the city overnight, returning to something peaceful and unique. The property sits on the banks of the Saigon River. There's a spa and riverfront restaurant as well as a pool, perfect for a dip in the steamy afternoon heat.
The rooms and villas are set back from the river in clusters spread throughout the grounds. Some feature large sitting areas, balconies or terraces as well as outdoor bathrooms. Some even boast private pools and river views. The rooms feature some traditional Vietnamese and French touches with polished wooden floors and crisp white sheets. The style of the rooms is more contemporary, whereas the main public areas of the resort are designed to feel more simple, using natural materials.
Food is one of the highlights at An Lam Saigon, with Luc Binh being the main affair. Serving a-la-carte Vietnamese and French cuisine, the restaurant looks out to the river. If you arrive early enough we'd recommend eating outside; there are three tables on the terrace overlooking the river but its on a first come first serve basis.
For those who want to stay back at the hotel through the day you might want to spend time in the pampering spa, enjoy a cookery lesson, take part in a yoga lesson or simply relax around the pool.
We think An Lam Saigon is a good alterative for those who do not wish to stay in the city centre, however it is worth being aware that it is not for those wanting high levels of luxury or glamour, as it is fairly low-key.
There are 17 beautiful villas and suites spread throughout the tropical gardens.
The resort offers a babysitting service.
The lovely Luc Binh Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch & dinner. There is no extra fees on room service!

An Lam is a great choice for those not keen on staying in central Saigon but wanting to dip in and out; it's 20 minutes by speedboat up the river or 40 by car. The suites are set in jungle-like gardens which although gives the feeling of being in the countryside, does mean it is quite dark.

Visiting Ho Chi Minh City for the second time, I was eager to find a more boutique property that wasn't in the heart of the city. An Lam Private Residences offers just that and for those who are staying in Ho Chi Minh for more than a night or two, then this would be the perfect retreat. The setting of the hotel is just idyllic, and you can spend hours sitting at the beautiful riverside restaurant watching the river life go by! I was lucky enough to stay in a Pool Suite (unique especially for a city hotel), which was absolutely perfect to take a dip in after a busy day in the heat. All in all, if you're prepared to be located just out of the city, then this really does tick all the boxes.
