Lake Tahoe is an all-year round destination, mainly visited by Scott Dunn guests from spring through to autumn. During the summer months, the 70-mile loop of beaches, beautiful hiking and endless water sports make it a Mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. Equally in the winter months, the ski resorts open and visitors enjoy the powder for skiing and snow boarding. During the months of July and August guests should be prepared for the resort to be full as Tahoe is a favourite destination for American tourists alike, giving the whole of the lake region a real summer holiday feel.

Insider's View

I love the hotel for families, for those who want to ski and also for those who would like a level of luxury and perhaps not ski all day everyday

The chef makes his own marshmallows every day, they are on the menu at Manzanita in the evenings

The ski valet will make sure you have the right skis and boots for you and then also ensure that they are on the slopes waiting for you in the mornings

The Backyard BBQ has a whole range of different BBQ'd food. This is a really amazing spot to have lunch on a sunny day. I would recommend the pulled pork

Try the S'mores Nachos at Manzita – they will beat any s'more you've ever eaten!

For something a bit indulgent at the end of a busy day on the slopes, head over to the Moet & Chandon Apres bar for a glass of fizz in the sun!

Lake Tahoe is one of those year-round destinations; in the warm summer months it is an outdoor enthusiasts dream and come winter, a snowy winter wonderland for skiing and snowboarding fanatics with its ski-in ski-out access.

For all its rugged wilderness, guests can enjoy luxurious accommodations in Tahoe at The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe. Its mid mountain location views and Martis Valley views can be enjoyed from the floor-to-ceiling windows and private walk-out balconies. The lake itself is also only a mere 15 minutes away. It's ski-in ski-out location and the hotel's Mountain Concierge services makes for hassle free skiing and in the summer their assistance with coordinating lake-side activities, preparing backpacks and picnics for excursions and recommending the best trails helps you to make the most of your time.

Guest rooms and suites are contemporary in design, with luxurious linens and warm woods and textured fabrics and kitted out with all the technology to enhance your stay. The in-room fireplaces are especially welcome during the colder months and create a cosy atmosphere.

Chef Traci Des Jardins heads up signature restaurant Manzanita, featuring award winning French-inspired California cuisine. The new slopeside Backyard Bar and BBQ is also a popular and fun choice to enjoy an après ski beverage and something to eat. The marshmology experience is particularly popular with children where they can toast marshmallows on the fir pit.

After all the day’s activities, guests can unwind at The Ritz-Carlton Spa, with 16 treatment rooms and ladies' and gentlemen's lounge areas with sauna, steam and whirlpool. Two outdoor swimming pools allow guests the option of swimming laps or relaxing by the pool, whilst the state of the art fitness centre offers a variety of exercise classes. For the golfer, preferred access and tee times to the Old Greenwood and Gray's Crossing golf courses is just minutes away. In the summer, being so close to one of the nation's largest and most cherished lakes means that hiking, biking, fly fishing and watersports are all easily accessible.

170 wonderfully luxurious guest rooms and suites adorn the Ritz. Superb mountain or resort views and contemporary rustic décor really reflect the destination.

With its magnificent setting, The Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe is able to provide dining options with dramatic backdrops.Manzanita serves rustic Californian cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Wooden décor and warming colours create a welcoming atmosphere and the large windows offer views of the mountains. The Living Room has views of the Martis Valley, sofas and fireplaces makes it lovely and homely place to enjoy a cocktails, light bite to eat or a glass or two of wine from the extensive list. Backyard Bar and BBQ is a newly opened alfresco dining venue found on the back patio. It is great in the winter as it is a ski-in ski-out establishment where you can enjoy BBQ favourites such as smoked ribs, pulled pork sandwiches and pizzas. In the Summer it is more of a poolside restaurant but serves the same food. Café Blue offers fresh pressed juices and smoothies, homemade Paninis and pastries and coffee. Highlands Bar is the place to head to for some aperitifs or digestifs. You can also enrol on cocktail mixology class and take some recipes home.

Facilities at the hotel also include a spa, fitness centre and a pool.

Outdoor adventure abounds, especially in the summer time where there are endless scenic trails to hike, mountain biking, water sports and vintage boat tours on the magnificent alpine waters of Lake Tahoe.

In the winter make the most of the wonderful skiing opportunities. The hotel's slopeside location gives easy access to the pistes for all levels. Other winter sports include snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice skating, tubing and heli-skiing.

The Ritz Carlton is tucked away in the mountains above the village of Northstar, it feels secluded but with great ski in-ski out access. This property is perfect for families who enjoy ultimate ski convenience. Northstar is great for families or intermediate skiers offering a sheltered and pretty ski area within the trees. For any guests using ski school the instructors will meet you at the hotel which makes the morning start super easy. There is also a supervised Ritz Kids programme for children over 5 years old. The homemade marshmallow Smores by the fire make returning from skiing a delight!

The Ritz Carlton is my favourite hotel at the North of the Lake for skiing. Whilst staying here, you do not have to lift a finger, the ski valet will make sure your skis are ready on the slopes waiting for you. You can get fitted easily in the amazing in house ski rental shop as well pick up any pieces you might have left behind.

There is a choice of good restaurants here and an amazing spa as well as a beautiful saltwater pool and then if you do wish for more the Northstar village is just a private gondola ride away
