Forty 1 North brings contemporary cool to Newport, Rhode Island. With a magnificent position overlooking the harbour and yachts, Forty 1 North's deck is a place to hang out, see and be seen - where St Tropez-style glamour meets old-world sophistication.
Newport, Rhode Island is quintessential East Coast low-key sophistication: with ocean on all sides, sandy beaches, magnificent mansions dating from the 18th Century, through the Gilded Age to present day and a harbour brimming with yachts. Paving the way for the revival of Newport with its chic and stylish ambiance, Forty 1° North brings an injection of modernity and fun to the historic harbour town.
From the exterior Forty 1 North with its white cedar cladding is designed to blend in with the prevalent Newport 18th century architecture however, the interior is minimal, sleek and contemporary and every nook and cranny of this 28 room hotel designed with the environment in mind. The guest rooms and suites which overlook the harbour or Thames Street are gorgeous - all grown-up blues and greys with Frette bedding, 40 inch LED TV screens, in room iPads and iPods and Malin + Goetz bath and spa products. The most sought after are the suites with their own balconies. The hotel also offers Cottages and Lofts across the road which are simpler in décor, but sleep up to 5 and come with a fully equipped kitchen so ideal for families.
The star of the show is without doubt the enormous wooden deck extending from the Grill restaurant which leads on to the hotels own full service marina and the perfect place to oggle the docked mega yachts. Why not join the fun and rent your own boat through the hotel for the day? By day kick off your shoes and order lobster sliders and chilled Sancerre to a background of chilled tunes and at weekends join the party with cocktails on the improvised dance floor. Christies offers a more informal alternative, retro décor, sharing plates, seafood and Asian and Latin flavours.
Forty 1 North environmentally friendly rooms, suites, cottages and lofts are complete with modern technologies and floor to ceiling windows offering wonderful views of the harbour. Cool interior colours and plenty of natural sunlight makes the rooms a joy to spend time in. Rooms features gas fireplaces, full wet bars, iPads, and integrated media systems.
Whilst the rooms in the main hotel are contemporary and stylish, the cottages and lofts, whilst spacious, are much more rustic in style and do not offer any views.
Children are welcome to come and stay at Forty 1 North. The Lofts and Cottages offer the best accommodation option for families as they are more spacious, have a kitchen and plenty of play areas. High chairs and children's menus are available in the restaurants and babysitting can be arranged upon request.
Forty 1 North has two restaurants - The Grill is their more formal restaurant serving sumptuous grilled meats and seafood and it also has a raw bar. Christies is more casual with its hip, playful and colourful atmosphere serving traditional New England Coastal cuisine.
Forty 1 North is located in the heart of the historic Newport town renowned for its mansions, beaches, museums and marinas. The 3.5 mile cliff walk takes you around the natural beauty of Newport and gives you an insight into its architectural history. At the downtown waterfront you will find the majority of the shops, museums and wonderful dining options.
Throughout the summer there are outdoor concerts and movie screenings, polo matches and local baseball matches and the hotel can arrange boat rentals to explore the coast. Tennis fans will love the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and art lovers the National Museum of American Illustration and the Newport Art Museum.

How to get there
It is a 7-hour 30-minute direct international flight to Boston's Logan International Airport with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic. From Boston it is a drive of about 2-hours to Newport, Rhode Island.
