The Winelands are a wonderful year-round destination and enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate, somewhat like the South of France, which is what makes the area perfect for grape-growing. Summer in Franschhoek is the reverse of the Northern hemisphere. The best season visit is September to March when it is hot, sunny and dry. From April to August it cools down with some rain.
To start planning your holiday to Boschendal
Set on one of the oldest wine estates in The Winelands, Boschendal Wine Estate gives guests access to the entire farm. With the emphasis being on style and simplicity it is the perfect base to totally relax and explore the Winelands.
Ideally situated between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch at Boschendal Wine Estate you can choose to do as much or as little as you wish. With a range of cottage options which accommodate from one guest to six there is something to suit everyone. Larger groups can stay in the historical Rhodes Cottage designed by Herbert Baker and the recently restored farm labourer cottages are perfect for honeymooners. All the cottages have some sort of a kitchenette so you can make tea or coffee in the mornings or enjoy a sundowner drink in your private garden in the evening.
A continental breakfast basket filled with fresh croissants, fruit and preserves will be delivered to your door each morning after 9am. Should you want an earlier start then we recommend sampling the food from the deli which opens at 0730. Food here however will be at your own expense. If you ever wish to have lunch or dinner in your cottage just ask in the morning for it to be delivered to your door.
You will feel right at home. Go for a wander through the vineyards or head out on a mountain hike stopping off to sample a fresh plum or pear in the orchards. Take a stroll up to the dam for a spot of trout fishing or simply relax by the pool.
The hotel has three different dining options from the more formal main restaurant to Le Cafe which is a perfect lunch spot in the summer and a cosy hideaway in the cooler months.
Boschendal Wine Estate has four different cottage options for guests to choose from. The Clarence Cottage has two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and access to a small private garden. It is the perfect option for families. The seven Orchard Cottages have either one or two bedrooms and are set on the farm-side of the estate about a ten minute walk from the main area. For couples the Werf Cottages are the perfect option. The seven cottages share a large pool and are right at the heart of the Boschendal experience. For larger groups there is the Rhodes Cottage which sleeps 6 people and has the most incredible views over the Boschendal Estate.
Boschendal welcomes children of all ages and the two bedroom cottages are perfect for families.
Spend the day exploring the farm and seeing a working vineyard. Explore the wine cellars and do a wine tasting of the famous Boschendal wines. With several different restaurants and cafes there is a range of dining options or grab a picnic basket and find a secluded picnic spot in the hotels gardens.
Boschendal is perfectly situated between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch and as a result it is the ideal base from which to explore the vineyards and incredible restaurants in the Winelands. On the farm itself you can head up to the dam for a bit of trout fishing or go for a swim. Croquet and boule are also on offer for guests to use. Explore the farm and take a wine tasting tour of the famous Boschendal wines.
Boschendal Estate is one of the oldest wine producers in the New World, incorporating French viticulture heritage. This is also the site of the original Cape Dutch Manor House, with history dating as early as 1685.

Explore the Cape Peninsular with its local fishing villages and surfing beaches. Snorkel or stand up paddle board in rock pools near penguin colonies before venturing deep into the Peninsula reserve to discover the rich wildlife inhabiting this area.
