The Algarve has a mild climate with more than 300 days of sunshine a year. The climate in the Algarve is generally warm and sunny in May with the risk of the odd shower of rain. Sometimes it can be cool in the evenings. By June the weather generally settles in a pattern of long hot sunny days and balmy evenings especially in July and August. Rain is unlikely but it can happen from time to time. Throughout the summer months it can be windy especially during the afternoon. June and September are particularly pleasurable months.

Surrounded by pine trees and overlooking a glorious sandy beach, Pine Cliffs Resort is a perfect family destination. There are many facilities including a 9-hole golf course, tennis courts, a stunning Spa and a Scott Dunn Explorers kids club.
Pine Cliffs Resort is located in the most southern region of Portugal, the Algarve, famous for its almost constant sunshine and long sandy beaches. The resort is perched on beautiful red cliffs with stunning views out to the Atlantic Ocean, with green lawns and pine trees.
There is a variety of accommodation spread throughout the resort. Scott Dunn recommends the Two and Three Bedroom Pine Cliffs Residences which are located close to the golf course, tennis courts and the Scott Dunn Explorers kids club. With their spacious living room with kitchenette, they give guests the flexibility of self-catering, and are perfect for families. We also recommended the new Ocean Suites, a range of contemporary designed suites that have a 1,000m2 dedicated Spa area. There are a number of restaurants and bars to choose from (most with children's menus) ranging from informal international brasserie style to fine dining seafood and Mediterranean restaurants.
The magnificent 6km sandy Falesia beach stretches all the way to Vilamoura and is accessed by a lift followed by a series of wide steps. At the beach there is a small choice of watersports on offer and a fantastic beach club which offers fresh fish and lovely salads. Tennis professionals are available for coaching all ages and abilities and there is a 9-hole golf course and golf academy, built on the edge of a spectacular cliff overlooking the sea.
Pine Cliffs Resort remains a firm family favorite, with its short transfer time and child-friendly facilities. Our Explorers kids club, exclusive to Scott Dunn guests looks after and entertains children from as young as 4 months and up to 11 years, ensuring children have a fun-filled vacation and parents have a well-earned rest. The resort also features a heated children’s pool, 18 hole mini crazy golf course and a bouncy castle.

Most of the rooms at Pine Cliffs Resort are all well equipped with flat screen TV, direct dial telephone, safe, internet, rainforest showers and Luxury Collection beds. The majority feel incredibly spacious and have large balconies, some enjoying gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean, lush gardens or the Monchique mountains.
We recommend the 2 and 3 bedroom residences which form part of the Luxury Collection and are equipped with living room, kitchenette, utility room, stylish bedrooms and either a balcony or terrace - great for families as there is ample space for the children, plus facilities to cook. All the benefits of a 5 star hotel, but with the independence a serviced apartment gives you - put a wash on, cook the children's supper or relax on the balcony with a gin and tonic, whilst the little ones are sound asleep. The Ocean Suites also provide fantastic luxury accommodation and are suitable for both couples and family alike.
Late check-out can be arranged (subject to availability) and is €15 per hour.

|Pine Cliffs Golf||
The immaculate Pine Cliffs Golf Course lies perched 200 feet above the golden sands and blue water of the Atlantic Ocean.
This is one of the country’s most original golf courses, built in a pinewood setting, with tree lined fairways running parallel along the Atlantic Ocean, giving it's guests breathtaking views along the Algarvian coastline. Architect Martin Hawtree’s main concern was to keep the natural surroundings as it was before the course was built.
The jewel of this perfectly kept course is the Par 3 sixth hole. The championship tee, known as the Devil’s Parlour, is built over a ravine that requires a 198 meter carrying shot over the cliffs to a deep but narrow green.

For beginners it's the ideal venue to ingrain good habits, or correct the bad ones before it's too late!! Hitting from the latest forgiving Astroturf mats is an exceptionally pleasant experience especially when combined with the teaching methods of the PGA golf pro team, placing the emphasis on enjoyment and fun.
Sharpening individual game skills such as putting, bunker play, chip shots and tee shots is one of The Golf Academy's specialties - using expressly patented and enjoyable exercises to hone the player's technique to get more fun and enjoyment from the game.
Muffett Family - September 2018 (Guest)
Rob is a credit to the business and is always on hand to provide good advice. The welcome hamper on arrival really helped especially with 2 young hungry kids! Emma and her team in the kids club were also superb, we felt completely at ease and the kids thoroughly enjoyed their time as well.
Kwong Family - September 2018 (Guest)
Kids are very well look after and high quality accommodation.
Whichello Family - August 2018 (Guest)
The service has been exceptional from the day we arrived to the day we left. The Explorers were second to none we will certainly be coming back and using the kids club.
Darke Family - August 2018 (Guest)
We have been really impressed by the kids club - incredibly well organized, wonderful staff (Clare has been amazing and the boys adore her) and great communication with us as parents (regular text updates and photos which really helped us relax and enjoy our time away from the kids). Huge thank you.
Cranidge Family - August 2018 (Guest)

Kids absolutely loved the kids club and really bonded with the friendly staff. They did so many fun activities - it was much more than just childcare. They had a tennis lesson, a golf lesson and trips to an aqua park and Zoomarine.

Pine Cliffs is perfect for the active family destination, with multiple accommodation options from hotel rooms to apartment style, they really have something for everyone.
With the Scott Dunn Explorers Kids Club based in the residences it makes them the perfect base for a family wanting to utilize the kids club as well as being away from the main hub of the resort. I would recommend booking into the garden residence (available in two or three bedrooms) as they give you the option to have a great outside area which is perfect in the evening without been restricted to a balcony. If you like to be more in the hub of the resort with the real WOW factor I would suggest looking at the new Ocean Suites, as these are based in the building with the award winning spa. The Ocean Suites have options for the smaller families and even have a three bed option.
With over 9 different dining options there is no need to eat in the same place twice. I would recommend heading to the new heath food restaurant Zest for a lighter lunch and a fresh juice to revitalise yourself.
Pine Cliffs really has something for everyone with great bike hire available on-site which make getting around much easier but there are also some great biking trails available from the resort. If you want to look for a 21st century transport mode you can even hire a Segways for an hour or even the day! With the Segways linking up to your smartphone it really gives you a modern transport mode.Tennis at Pine Cliffs is a must with the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy there is lessons available for all abilities, with a selection of courts (hard, clay and paddle) finding something for you is never a problem but make sure you pre-book the early evening time slots to avoid the heat!

I traveled with my three year old son to Pine Cliffs along with a few of our travel experts to test out the facilities. I was really impressed by just how perfect the resort is for young families.
The residences work perfectly offering space that families need on vacation. You don't live in two rooms at home so why spend a week or two in this manner! With a full size living space, really well equipped kitchen and separate bathrooms your space is one of the key winners for me here.
I really liked how spaced out the property is, the gardens are pretty and wondering between restaurants, the pools makes this resort feel laid back.
The explorers club is located in a converted residence with a great garden space and the children are taken around the resort, to the beach and off site - it's really a great club with so much to offer. Parents can feel completely guilt free that the kids are having a great time. My son loved his day in Explorers so much that he cried all the way home from Pine Cliffs to Gatwick - not ideal!
James Leet-Cook (Staff)
A great resort with unmatchable space for activities, great for children to play in and explore. Very green and luscious with the trees providing some welcome shade while you relax with a book. The beach is amazing and definitely worth hanging around down at the beach club with a cocktail while the sun goes down to make sure you have that vacation feeling. No need to use the same pool every day when you can try a different one for every day of the week.

Pine Cliffs is a fantastic family destination, the choice of accommodation to choose from is excellent. The residences are perfect for access to the Scott Dunn Explorer Children's Club and the O'Grill restaurant. Each residence has been finished to an excellent standard and feel nice and homely. I would recommend booking a Garden Residence as these are located on the ground floor, you can relax outside you accommodation on a lounger and walk straight out to the grounds (also a great place for the kids to run around). You can choose to cater for yourselves as the kitchens are fully equipped and Scott Dunn can arrange a pre-arrival food shop on request.
Make sure you visit the specialty restaurants - Yakuza, the Japanese restaurant, located at the top of the resort by the Terrace accommodation and Piri Piri, the steak house restaurant. The Beach Club is also great for lunch on the beach or a pre-dinner cocktail.
The Scott Dunn Explorer Children's Club is located in the peaceful area of the residences, the activities are fantastic, these include a trip to the Porto Pirata pirate ship and children's pool, the children will love this play area! There is also crazy golf, a great activity for the whole family.
There is so something for everyone at Pine Cliffs and it is the perfect destination for a hassle free vacation for the whole family.
From the moment I stepped on court with head pro Paulo Machado it was clear I was in safe hands. While stories from training with former world No.1s Ivan Lendl and Yevgeny Kafelnikov during his playing days perhaps werent exactly what I needed to hear while I was scraping the rust off my 41-year-old backhand, it was clear this likeable Portuguese former pro knew the game inside out. Years spent playing the tour mean his game is up to scratch (trust me, this guys a human ball machine) and recent years spent working with Polands top national juniors has honed his understanding of how young players improve. And if performance tennis isnt your thing, heck, hes just a really lovely guy wholl keep you smiling on court. We talked for hours. His philosophy for tennis is more a philosophy for life.
Paulo heads up the resorts relatively new Annabel Croft Tennis Academy, the second of the former British No.1s international portfolio having launched her first in Cyprus. Croft, and business partner Steve Cockell, have created a tennis center that can cater for any age and standard of player. The academys small and friendly team will whip your game into shape on the two clay and three cement courts using techniques such as the X Factor and Death Drill. Steve, an English pro with years of on-court experience himself, and a menacing Portuguese supermarket trolley full of balls gave me a taste of X Factor. Fifteen minutes of that under a warm Portuguese sun and all I was good for was a fluffy white robe and the hotel jacuzzi.
Which brings me nicely on to the resorts other first-rate facilities. Eating and drinking can be taken in any one of the 12 restaurants and bars, and accommodation is a choice between the five-star 215-room Sheraton Algarve Hotel, or one of a number of apartment or townhouse options scattered throughout the immaculate, wonderfully serene grounds. The Pine Cliffs Vacation Club Golf Suites comprise 78 two and three-bedroom apartments overlooking the resorts nine-hole golf course, theres Pine Cliffs Village - 45 townhouses and three villas which have their own private gardens and pool - and Pine Cliffs Residence, 154 two and three-bedroom luxury apartments. The resorts name, as you may have guessed, is derived from its location, perched high up on the dramatic orange cliff tops that overlook Falesia beach, accessed from the picturesque pine tree-themed gardens by a brilliantly simple but effective panoramic elevator. An elevator to a beach? Why doesnt the world have more of those?
As well as the golf, tennis, beach and Atlantic Ocean, theres a huge focus on childrens activities with the kind of facilities that helped Pine Cliffs be named Portugals Leading Family Resort in the World Travel Awards four years running from 2009-2012. The 7,000-meter-square childrens village (with two life-size wooden pirate ships and its own swimming pool) has to be seen to be believed, and this safe and spotless designated kids area also features an 18-hole mini golf course.
Running alongside the nine-hole course that brings in the golfing crowd, theres a first-rate academy featuring driving range, putting green and chipping green, a 4km jogging track, luxury spa, five outdoor swimming pools to choose between, and a health and fitness club within the hotel that boasts an indoor pool, sauna and jacuzzi.
Portugal is amazingly good value, but luxury resorts are pretty thin on the ground. Pine Cliffs is worth seeking out 10 minutes and a world away from Albufeira, its set amind conifers on a outcrop of amber-red sandstone. The resort has a great kids club, several fab restaruatns, almost four miles of sandy coastline, tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, sailing and surfing in the Atlantic surely enough to keep even the most active family entertained. Scott Dunn has a week in a two bedroom residence from 846pp B&B including flights. An equivalent break would come in at nearer 1500pp in Italy and as much as 1700pp in the South of France.
Katherine Gotla (Staff)
Our Explorers children's club is fantastic. Set across 2 ground-floor residences, it's an incredible set-up for children. You can see they'll make great buddies for the week and we've seen blossoming friendships, whereby the parents also make friends and come back year-after-year.
Richard Perry (Staff)
If you are an active family looking for market-leading childcare with the independence of your own two or three bedroom residence then Pine Cliffs is without doubt one of the best hotels in the Algarve.
The residences are incredibly spacious yet luxurious and the kitchens make bed and breakfast or even self-catering a real possibility whilst those in Block 12 are only a stone's throw away from our Scott Dunn Explorers Club. Childcare is offered for children of four months to thirteen years of age in our bright and modern club and, with two day trips a week for the older children, the programs are sociable and varied.
With eight restaurants in total even those with the most refined palettes will struggle to get bored of the food at Pine Cliffs. And, with plenty of sunshine and a cool Atlantic breeze Al Fresco is definitely the best way to enjoy locally-caught seafood in view of the sea.
