From the famous ‘La Face’ black run to the fabulous après-ski scene, the ski resort of Val d’Isère in the French Alps is a pleasing mix of superb skiing and lively chic. Located in the expansive Espace Killy which enjoys a good snow record, and includes the resort of Tignes which is easily accessed from Val d’Isère, the skiing is virtually limitless.
Beginners can enjoy easy runs and a superb choice of ski schools, while more advanced skiers will love the blues, reds, blacks, tree runs and, on a powder day, exhilarating off-piste. Val d'Isere offers 10,000 hectares of skiing with 300km of groomed pistes, the ski area starts at 1550m and goes up to 3450m and, with 60% of the pistes above 2200 m, there is almost guaranteed snow cover from the end of November to the beginning of May.
A family friendly resort, Val d'Isere has the Famille Plus label and facilities include slow skiing zones for a safe learning environment as well as family-friendly events and entertainment organized by the resort. The new Solaise area features a new high-altitude area for beginners with magic carpets, a Day Lodge with spectacular views (especially from the toilets!) and offers families convenient features such as a cafe, picnic area, moving picture display and a tiered-seating mini cinema with DVDs.
