Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

The beautiful tented suites are filled with antiques and African artefacts to give an 'Out of Africa' feel. The tents all have air conditioning and a private butler. The camp also offers in room massages and there is a large pool for those needing a cool off from the warm African sun.

Bateleur is recently renovated, with a lovely friendly feel and fantastic facilities. Think luxury tents, opening on to a beautiful terraces providing expansive views of the Mara. The rooms offer a big free standing bath under a glass roof to take in the stars along with an outdoor shower. With a pool, gym and spa tent there is everything you could want while being in the heart of the wildlife.

The whole camp at Bateleur has been completely revamped and reopened at the end of May this year. They have done an excellent job - they have made the tents far more spacious and added in a lot of luxuries including a glass roof over the free standing bath (which no bath should now go without!) whilst managing to keep the whole Out of Africa feel. The tents are positioned on the edge of the forest with lovely views out to the plains where you can see a lot of wildlife walking by during the day. As in true &Beyond style the food and service are exceptional with lovely little twists such as outdoor cooking stations whipping up fresh stir frys and everything in between. The swimming pool has also been extended and now is a lovely place to sit and look out over the planes under the dappled shade. Being in its own little concession you do have the luxury of being able to do walking safaris and night drives, otherwise not allowed in the Mara National Park.

Bateleur Camp is set within the forest at the base of the Olololo Escarpment, the elevated position commands some fantastic views over the Mara plains below.

The camp is split in two, North and South. Nine tents, 10-18, are assigned to the North Camp communal area and nine to the South Camp communal area. The North Camp is raised above the dense foliage and is a stunning spot to look out over the Mara. The deck is kitted with a telescope which is great for scanning and there is no shortage of game to look at at any time of year. The main area is shingle roofed and is larger than the tented main area of South Camp. South Camp is set lower in the forest and is more enclosed than North Camp. Rather than a deck it has a grassy area, shaded by trees, where guests can enjoy meals.

There is a pool nestled amongst the trees in the centre of camp. There is not a lot of space around the pool to sit, but the pool itself is a good size.

The service at Bateleur is of a very high standard, meals are fresh and full of flavour and Milka and Stanley, the Managers, are great fun. The tents are spacious and extremely comfortable.
