  • Dotonbori

    Dotonbori

    Dotonbori is one of Osaka’s most recognisable streets for food and entertainment. Oversized signs and neon lights lead you past bustling restaurants and food stalls. Try specialities with local guides and make sure to explore the canal side-streets framed by billboards including the iconic Glico Running Man sign. Beyond dining, Dotonbori also has a connection to traditional performance. Here you can experience bunraka, traditional theatre performed with life-sized puppets, at the National Bunraku Theatre.

  • Osaka Castle

    Osaka Castle

    Osaka Castle is one of the city’s most visited landmarks. While the current tower is a reconstruction, elements of the original stone base remain from 1620. Today, inside is a modern museum about Osaka Castle’s history with an observation deck at the top level.

    Be sure to take time to explore Osaka Castle Park, including Nishinomaru Garden which is especially beautiful during cherry blossom season. You can also experience the complex from a unique perspective on a Gozabune Boat cruise along the castle’s inner moat.

    Head to Namba and Shinsaibashi for some of Osaka’s most lively shopping and entertainment districts. First, grab a bite to eat at some of the most popular okonomiyaki restaurants in Namba.     There’s even more to see when you head to Shinsaibashi. It’s home to the famous Shinsaibashi-suji, Osaka’s oldest and busiest shopping streets. This covered arcade stretches for several hundred metres and is lined with a mix of independent shops, restaurants, and larger brands. Other nearby areas include Amerikamura, known for its younger crowd and fashion scene.

  • Kuromon Ichiba Market

    Kuromon Ichiba Market

    Kuromon Ichiba Market is a long-established covered market in central Osaka and has been around for over 100 years. Fresh seafood is what the market’s most famous for, where you can find vendors selling seasonal specialties like hamo (conger eel) in summer and fugu (pufferfish) in winter. You can also find stalls selling popular seafood like spider crab legs, oysters, and uni (sea urchin). In addition to seafood, the market includes stalls selling sweets, fruit, and kitchenware plus plenty of restaurants to stop for a bite.

  • Shinsekai

    Shinsekai

    Shinsekai, meaning “New World”, feels like a step back into Osaka’s Showa-era past, with neon-lit streets, retro storefronts and a nostalgic atmosphere that stands apart from the rest of the city.
