Osaka
Osaka is Japan’s second largest metropolis, its modern skyline complimented by the intricate craftsmanship of Osaka Castle. A city of new and old, Osaka was once the country’s capital. Today, it doubles as an economic hub and centre for culture and typical cuisine. Its international airport and close proximity to Kyoto make it a perfect and easy addition to any trip to Japan.
Most people’s first port of call in Osaka, is the castle. Originally dating back to 1583, Osaka Castle has been re-constructed several times and now features classic-style turrets, walls and gates inside its shimmering blue moat. The surrounding park is particularly beautiful in spring, when the Cherry Blossom is in bloom. Another of our favourite Osaka pastimes is wandering the colourful streets of the Shinsekai neighbourhood and tucking into kushikatsu, a Japanese skewered delicacy, with the locals. For families, Universal Studios Japan occupies prime position on the city’s waterfront.
