Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Bali’s climate is warm and humid, temperatures averaging between 21°C and 31°C. Short bursts of rain occur from November until April, making the velvet green landscape come alive. April to October is the dry season, although in hilly Ubud, you rarely feel too hot.

Festival periods can get busier. In Ubud, however, you never feel the crowds. This is the advantage Ubud has over the south coast area that can get packed to bursting around August, Christmas and New Year.

Be prepared for a warm welcome with one of Bali's best Pisang Goreng or 'Fried Banana' prepared fresh for your arrival. Then enjoy the resort grounds which are beautiful, showcasing the artistic cultural flair Ubud is famous for with large statues and classic Balinese structures and gardens. The views surrounding the private villas and pavilion restaurant are of lush rice fields that cover the surrounding area. Soak up the Balinese life style while you enjoy complimentary afternoon tea or cocktails and canaps at the pool side.

The restaurant in the rice paddy fields provides endless picture perfect moments. I wanted though to get more in amongst it so ended up wandering on the raised grassy area between each pristine field and was greeted by charming locals going about their daily lives. The Chedi Club has championed the realisation that acknowledging and integrating with the local environment really does create something special. I loved that in the morning when I headed back to my villa from breakfast, that the gates at the end of my pool had opened to make essentially an infinity pool dropping away to the rice crops.

This was a real favourite of mine when I visited Ubud. The hotel used to be a private residence but has been beautifully renovated into a series of boutique villas, situated amongst working rice paddy fields. With only twenty units, the property feels exclusive and intimate, and is great for guests wanting to get away from the crowds.

With just 20 villas on their 5 hectares of land you get the most fantastic feeling of space and privacy here. Unusually the land is flat, so there are not the steps and hill climbs that you get at many other properties. This means you have the freedom to wonder round and take full advantage of the glorious gardens and views of the working rice paddy fields. The restaurant juts out onto a rice paddy and is in a spectacular and unique setting, where you feel miles away from the Western world. Meals can be totally personalised and while the menu is impressive, with a mix of Indonesian and western, you can request anything you wish - the chef likes a challenge! My favourite rooms are the One Bedroom Pool Villas, with a fabulous size pool. Here they also offer yoga, tennis, laundry, complimentary mini bar and butler service, all with an incredible personal touch.

As I walked up the steps and along the path to the entrance of The Chedi Club, I was taken aback by the stunning scenery of the surrounding rice fields, belonging to the property. Guests can take part in rice paddy trekking to gain a real understanding of how the rice is grown and harvested. The property's 20 rooms are all very spacious and spread out amongst the beautiful gardens. The main pool is the perfect place to spend some time relaxing in the sun. Don't miss out on the delicious afternoon tea, which can be enjoyed in the restaurant, by the pool or in the comfort of your own villa. The restaurant is set on the paddy fields and has a mesmerizing view. Watch the sun disappear into the trees with a sweet basil cocktail in hand before a spectacular dinner. There is always something to go, or something to see; one of the highlights being the traditional Kecak dance performed in the hotel's amphitheatre.

The Chedi Club in Ubud was out of this world! Service superb, the villa stunning, views stunning, the food there is like a Michelin restaurant and it was just the perfect place to relax! We really enjoyed going into the town centre too. The rooms were surprisingly free of insects too which was a major plus for me (I am afraid of everything!).

Unlike most hotels in Ubud that sit on the edge of the Ayung Gorge, the Chedi Club sits amidst flat working paddy fields which gives you a real sense of being in and amongst Balinese daily life. Set on the Tanah Gajah estate, the Chedi Club is incredibly serene and peaceful and I loved the relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

The wonderful Villas are extremely private with beautiful views across the rice fields and are appointed in a traditional Balinese fashion whilst being furnished with all modern comforts. We were superbly looked after by our butler who took care of our every need, even going so far as to scatter our bed with beautiful frangipani flowers in the evening, complete with a rabbit made out of towels!

The food here is divine, eaten at the open-sided restaurant looking out across the paddy fields, which are dotted with candles at night, with only the noise of croaking frogs and singing cicadas for company!
