This itinerary takes you on a journey through two amazing countries, China and Japan. From the heights of Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo to the Forbidden City in Beijing and geishas in Kyoto, this itinerary incorporates our top highlights of these two rich cultures.

  1. Days 1-3: Hong Kong

Hong Kong is the perfect place to start your adventure and you’ll have two nights in the city to explore all of its sights and sounds. Spend your days walking through atmospheric Kowloon and enjoy some fantastic shopping and restaurants on Hong Kong Island and Harbour City. There are few cities that can rival Hong Kong's eclectic mix of East meets West and you’ll love exploring its vibrant atmosphere.

Accommodation: Peninsula Hong Kong (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Beijing

Next you will take a flight of just under four hours to Beijing, where you will be staying for the next two nights. A modern city with an imperial past, China's history can be seen at every corner here. Regarded as the cultural centre of China, no visit to Beijing is complete without a visit to the Forbidden City and The Great Wall of China, which we have included for your full day in the city with your private guide and driver. We also recommend venturing out in the evening to the Beijing night market, where you can try lots of interesting local delicacies.

Accommodation: Aman Summer Palace Beijing (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-6: Xian

Next you will fly on to Xian for one night in order to see the world-famous Terracotta Warriors. Arguably one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th Century, The Qin Tomb is home to thousands of life-size clay models which have been excavated and carefully preserved. Again like, Beijing we have include a private guide and driver for you so that you can make the most of your short time in city as they bring the incredible Terracotta Warriors to life for you. If there is time, and you would like to visit wider Xian, we can also include a cycle tour around the ancient Xian wall or a visit to the local night markets.

Accommodation: Sofitel Legend People's Grand Hotel Xian (1 night)

  4. Days 6-8: Guilin

From historic Xian, travel to Guilin again by a short internal flight. Venturing further south, you’ll easily notice the different landscapes here, surrounded by tropical lush vegetation and low-rise limestone mountains that seem to emerge majestically out of the misty waters of the Li River. Guilin offers a total immersion into rural China and it's relaxing, natural beauty and with your private guide we have included a lovely journey along the Li River and cycling tour through the beautiful surrounding countryside.

Accommodation: Shangri-La Hotel, Guilin (2 nights)

  5. Days 8-10: Shanghai

Before heading to Japan, Shanghai provides the last stop in the Chinese part of this enriching tour. From Guilin, again you’ll take a short internal flight of just under two and a half hours. Different from other parts of China, Shanghai stands out as a unique, fast-paced and hedonistic city. Spoil yourself with good food and plenty of shopping and also take time to explore the historic area of the French Concession, which has its own interesting character.

    Accommodation: Peninsula Shanghai (2 nights)

  6. Days 10-12: Tokyo

From China it is on to Japan, with a flight of just two hours from Shanghai to Tokyo. A mix of dazzling lights and traditional culture, Tokyo is one of the most interesting cities in the world to explore. Experience the world of Harajuku and eat your heart out on the best sushi you will ever taste. We have included a full day tour of Tokyo with your private guide on the super-efficient metro system to take in all the highlights including the Imperial Palace Gardens, Senso-ji Temple and the incredible architecture of the Ginza district.

Accommodation: Mandarin Oriental Tokyo (2 nights)

  7. Days 12-13: Gora, Japan

From Tokyo, you will then take the lightning speed bullet train to Odawara Station from where your private chauffeur will meet you and drive you through the winding mountain roads up to Gora and wider Hakone National Park. Here you’ll have the chance to stay in a ryokan, or traditional Japanese Inn. Wear yukatas, soak in the onsen and feast on Kaiseki, a multi-course Japanese feast. The highlight of staying in a ryokan is the completely pampered service, so take one afternoon and night to completely unwind with lovely views over the surrounding countryside as you enjoy the lovely warm waters of the onsens.

    Accommodation: Gora Kadan (1 night)

  8. Days 13-15: Kyoto

Your final stop on the adventure will be Kyoto for two nights. Again, after you have been driven back to Odawara Station you’ll take the bullet train to Kyoto at just under three hours. Kyoto is jam packed full of history and amazing sites and we have included a private guide and driver for you here to explore all of its highlights including the beautiful district of Gion, the mesmerising Golden Temple and the buzzing and interesting Nishiki Market, perfect for people watching and checking out the local and famous produce from the region. At the end of your stay here, you’ll be driven to Kansai Airport, about a one-and-a-half-hour drive from Kyoto, in order to connect to your flight home.
