Xian and the surrounding regions experience four distinct seasons and a continental climate. Summers are hot and humid, with maximum temperatures often above 40°C, however the monsoon season brings plenty of rainfall to temper the scorching heat. Winters are cool and dry, and not unpleasant for exploring the sights of the region, but cold weather clothing and layers are advisable as temperatures drop to freezing. Spring is pleasantly warm, with gentle breezes and long sunny days, making March through to May the best times to visit Xian. Autumn temperatures are similarly mild; however, September and October often bring frequent rain showers.

Stepping into the Sofitel you feel immediately like youve been transported into another era. Marble and monochrome surround you and the whole place gives off a wonderful feeling of the past. For me it definitely felt more like a Parisian Hotel than being in one of Chinas most ancient cities. The rooms are spacious, full with more marble and stylish touches like claw footed bath tubs. The location is ideal for walking into the Muslim Quarter of Xian famous for its street food. There are gardens bordering the back of the hotel where you can sit out in the morning and watch local residents doing Tai Chi. Guests also have access to the full facilities of the neighbouring larger Sofitel including its excellent swimming pool. Its a fantastic hotel and the perfect place to retreat back to after a day spent learning about the fascinating Terracotta Warriors.
