A charming and sensitively re-designed colonial-era property set in a beautiful coffee-estate fringed by Atlantic rainforest, Fazenda Catucaba offers an almost unmatched sense of peace and plenty of immersive experiences, both natural and cultural.
A little under three hours drive from Sao Paulo, Fazenda Catuçaba is a unique 1000-acre coffee estate set among fragile Atlantic rainforest and a sister property to Pousada Picinguaba. This charming environmentally aware property offers a window into experiencing the fazenda lifestyle, with all the atmosphere of a family home - authentic, characterful and elegant, with delicious, healthy food from its organic farm. Staying here is a genuine Brazilian experience.
The traditional 1850s main house is the estate’s centrepiece, charmingly filled with original wooden floors and fireplaces, antique gramophones, white sash windows framing stunning views of the lush countryside. Dotted around the fazenda are the rooms, suites and villa which set in stone outhouse buildings and they are all designed with sensibility and style.
There are no TVs or internet in the rooms, as you come to Fazenda Catucaba to immerse yourself in nature through the excellent range of experiences. The region around Catuçaba is one of the most beautiful and least-known parts of Brazil. Whether you feel adventurous or lazy, there is something for everyone in this extraordinarily rich natural habitat including horseback tours, guided nature walks, birding, river rafting, wild swimming under rainforest waterfalls, and engaging with the rich local culture in beautiful little towns such as Sao Luis do Paraitinga.
For all the creature comforts, experiencing the farm is what counts. Coffee, cachaça, vegetables, meats, and cheeses are all produced on the land organically, and are used generously in the home-prepared dishes. In the evening, enjoy a local organic caipirinha round the fireplace, before tucking into a mouthwatering picanha, the local barbecue cut of beef.
An stay at Fazenda Catucaba is a great break for couples and families alike, and can easily be paired with a stay in Rio, Sao Paulo or the coastal town of Paraty.
There are eight deluxe rooms, two suites, two master villas and two rustic villas, all just a short walk from the main fazenda. Deluxe rooms are spacious, individually decorated and contain queen size beds. Beds are made up with Egyptian cotton, and bathrooms have powerful showers and robes to roam about in. The suites are larger, and have king size beds, fireplaces and a tub in the bathroom.
The Master villas (sleeping six), give you exclusive use of the three bedrooms (one suite and two double/twin rooms) as well as a terrace with wonderful views.
Fazenda Catucaba is a great place for the family, and the staff go out of their way to make the experience fun for children. Children aged 5 years and under stay free of charge and there are baby cots and extra beds. For children aged 6 years and over, there is a small additional charge. The suites can include an extra rollaway bed or baby cot, and the villa is ideal for larger families. Free babysitting is also available on request.
