In the western, central and eastern Bhutan you will mostly experience cold European-like weather. Winter lasts here from November to March. The Monsoon occurs between June and August when the temperature is normally between 8° and 21°C. October and November are arguably the best months, when the monsoon has passed and the skies are clear. The spring months of March, April and May are best for the flora, but it can be stormy as the monsoon builds up for July-September.
To start planning your holiday to Zhiwa Ling Ascent
Zhiwa Ling Ascent is located in the hills above Bhutan's captial city; Thimphu. This contemporary hotel boasts stunning views of not only the city from a distance but the rolling hills beyond. Explore the Bhutanese capital, returning to panoramic views.
Zhiwa Ling Ascent is the sister property of Zhiwaling in Paro but boasts its own charm, characteristics and very different style. The hotel is located on the hill, nestled in verdant woodland giving the property a real sense of calm and tranquility.
The hotel is also situated close to the Hospitality School where most of the friendly staff come from; a positive initiative to help support the local Bhutanese people.
The building has an impressive facade and oozes a real Scandanavian feel with a real minimalist wooden feel. The rooms are relatively basic but comfotable and have all the amenities you'd need.
One highlight of Zhiwa Ling Ascent are the panaromic views of the valley from the hotel's roof. The views really will take your breath away, they are beautiful. Enjoy your meals out here should you wish, there are also comfortable chairs for you to go and take in the views and simply relax.
The restaurant has lovely high ceilings and fantastic natural light, but the best thing is the food. Simply divine, meticulsouly planned the team can cook up a mix of delicious local delicacies combined with international favourites.
There are 20 rooms within Zhiwa Ling, 17 standard and 3 premier rooms. The premier rooms have a larger space with big windows, the bath and the shower are separate.
Zhiwa Ling does welcome children but it is not a family focused hotel as there are no extra additions and inclusions for kids.
As the hotel is in its infancy there are still additions to be made to the hotel, walking paths are going to be developed in the surrounding area for guests to be able to explore more of the Thimphu Valley. Massages on the roof can be organised for guests and there is also a sauna to enjoy.
There is a cinema room which is great for those wanting a cosy movie night, this room can also be changed into a yoga studio for guests.
Elsewhere, there is a vegetable garden and guests are welcome to take a look at what is growing and the produce itself is used in the kitchen which is a great addition.
Hiking is the main activity at Zhiwa Ling and this is available for all with different capabilities. Bicycles are also on offer for guests, this may be chargeable but it is definitely worth it if you would like to take on the valley on two wheels.
