Nehimba Lodge

Located within a private concession in the northern region of Hwange National Park is Nehimba Lodge. Famed for its huge populations of elephant, guests can expect an incredibly close-up experience of these gentle giants from the comfort of camp.

Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe
Nehimba Lodge
  • With the property perched on the edge of the Nehimba Pan, you’re perfectly located to spot elephants taking a dip first thing.

  • 4 hours’ drive from Victoria Falls, most of it through Hwange National Park, the journey itself is a safari, with the reward of the spectacular falls at the end!

  • One of the best lodges for walking safaris if you like to get out and about, as well as safaris by 4x4.

  • It’s not all about mammals, there are over 400 species of birds in the reserve, so make sure to bring your binoculars!

Situated in the northwest corner of the country, Hwange National Park is the largest park in Zimbabwe. Perhaps the most famous for its enormous populations of elephant, reaching the tens of thousands, Hwange also boasts more than 400 species of birds and healthy numbers of giraffe, hippo, buffalo and zebra amongst others. Nehimba Lodge sits at the edge of mopane woodland and Kalahari sandveld in Hwange and overlooks a magnificent pan which elephant frequent, particularly in the dry season. One fascinating feature of Nehimba is when elephants and other animals dig for water in the earth to form natural seeps in the ground, just as the San people once did.

Nehimba comprises nine luxury thatched tents, including one Honeymoon Suite and two Family Suites, each with a private balcony, en-suite facilities, an outdoor shower and hot and cold water. Tents are spacious with plenty of African charm, offering an authentic and comfortable stay. The main areas of camp all overlook Nehimba Pan, making excellent game viewing from the comfort of camp – you could spend an afternoon or evening relaxing on deck as elephants come up to drink and cool down.

Aside from enjoying elephant sightings from camp, Nehimba offers day and night game drives with an experienced guide; this is an excellent way to explore the area, and to see animals at night when they may be a bit more active. You could also head out on foot and experience a whole different side to the park, where sights, sounds and smells will be much more pronounced.
