Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Mana Pools has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zimbabwe's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game viewing, the dryer months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb birdwatching at the end of the rains.

Camp Zambezi is a traditional style tented bush camp, found in a stunning position on the banks of the mighty Zambezi in the heart of Mana Pools National Park. From Camp Zambezi explore Mana Pools by game drive, canoe or on foot.

Camp Zambezi is a comfortable tented bush camp set up on the bank of the mighty Zambezi River within the Mana Pools National Park. The camp is a very traditional safari camp with no electricity, no permanent structures, no plumbing - a taste of the way safaris used to be. The camp is designed to be put up or dismantled within hours, leaving no trace of its existence on the environment. The camp has comfortable beds furnished with linen and duvets. The large Meru style tents have en-suite toilet facilities for night-use. A long drop loo and showers (with plenty of hot water) are also provided for day-use. The staff service your tents daily and laundry can be done in camp. All water used in camp has been filtered and bottled water is also available. Each morning, staff will fill the wash basin outside the tent with hot water for washing. Lighting is by hurricane lamp but we recommend that guests should also bring their own torch or headlight. The romantic light thrown by candelabra makes a bush dinner, surrounded by the sounds of evening and a million stars, a truly special African occasion.

From the camp guests can experience the full range of safari activities including game drives, canoeing and walking. With no set itinerary each trip can be customised to the expectations of each individual group. The camp is perfect for those wishing to relax before starting of finishing another Natureways Safari.

Games drives are in open 4x4 Toyota Land Cruisers. These drives may take you away from the river, to investigate the different inland habitats and the diverse occupants that make up the ecology of the area. Walking safaris give to opportunity to explore and learn about the area, with your professional guide it is the best way to experience the incredible diversity of animals, insects and flora at Mana Pools. Mana Pools can provide some amazing experiences, if guests are looking for close encounters with game. Mana is famous for its bull elephants, and sometimes guests are lucky enough to encounter one of these gentle giants on foot, an experience never to forget!

Canoeing on the Zambezi is a wonderful way to take in the tranquillity of the bush, gliding past herds of animals often unaware or uncaring of our presence. Canoeing is done in 5.5m (18ft) Canadian style canoes, fitted with comfortable seats and cushions.

Camp Zambezi are too happy to cater for guests with any particular special interests, such as birding, photography, botany etc. Please advise us of any special interests prior to arrival. Ideally we recommend that guests should have their own set of binoculars to maximize the safari experience.

Fishing is also a popular activity from Camp Zambezi particularly towards the end of the dry season – September and October -when the tiger fish are biting. Camp Zambezi is the perfect launch point each day for the fishing enthusiasts. Canoe out from the camp each day and explore some of the islands and channels and spend the whole day fishing if you like, without the pressure of having to get to the next canoe camp down river, as per a canoe trail.
