Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The Camp is closed November to mid-May.

Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

In a wild and game rich part of the South Luangwa National Park is Kaingo Camp, an authentic and laidback camp focused around the incredible wildlife viewing on offer and complemented by expert guiding which makes for a truly wonderful safari experience.

Kaingo Camp is the perfect choice for a tranquil yet high-end experience safari in one of the best parks for wildlife viewing in the whole of Zambia. There are just six chalets and the camp has an incredible setting on the banks of the Luangwa River.

The spacious chalets of Kaingo have fly-wire for windows making for excellent views as well as a private deck built out over the river - not to mention the outdoor bathtub which allows you to watch hippos wallowing whilst you take a soak at the end of another exciting day on safari. All of the cottages are en-suite and the camp is run on solar to keep the environmental impact and sound levels to a minimum. Guests are instantly eased into the wilderness setting and encouraged to revel in the premium safari experience on offer. Undoubtedly a highlight of staying at Kaingo Camp is the chance to watch wildlife at close quarters from one of the camp's hides making for amazing photographic opportunities. For the particularly adventurous it is also possible to spend a night sleeping out under the stars on a sleepout platform with amazing views of the river, lulled to sleep by the sounds of the bush around you.

Whilst staying at Kaingo Camp guests will go on early morning and evening game drives which will end with sundowners in a scenic location, often overlooking the river where you can reflect on what you have seen that day. We also recommend getting out on foot and exploring the South Luangwa on foot on a walking safari, which were pioneered in the park. Accompanied by your expert walking guide and a National Park's scout you will have the opportunity to learn about the smaller aspects of the bush - a rewarding and fascinating experience.
