Upon arrival at the park, you will begin your trek to a Karen hilltribe village. At the village, you can learn about the daily lives of the local people, many of whom earn a living working at a mountainside coffee plantation.
Continue to walk into the forest, catching glimpses of the stunning vistas through the trees. Depending on the season, you may also pass vibrant green rice fields. During your time in the forest, keep an eye out for the local wildlife, which includes gibbons, deer, wild boar, and more than 350 species of birds.
Your trek will finish at the dramatic Wachiratharn Waterfall, which plummets 70 metres before crashing into the shallow pools at the base of the falls. Spend some time here enjoying the wonderful natural surroundings before heading back to Chiang Mai.
This is a full-day experience, starting at around 8:30 a.m. and finishing at around 5pm. Doi Inthanon National Park is a two-hour road transfer from the city of Chiang Mai. The trekking is moderate to difficult, so it does require a decent level of fitness. It is possible to walk the whole way, but certain parts can be done by car if you wish.Walking boots are not required, but you will need sturdy shoes with a good grip.
