Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

To start planning your holiday to Singita Sasakwa Lodge

Singita Sasakwa Lodge is the ultimate safari luxury in the style of an Edwardian manor house. Set in the private Grumeti Reserve, part of the Serengeti ecosystem, it sits in the path of the great wildebeest migration, providing excellent game viewing.

Singita Sasakwa Lodge is one of five Singita lodges in this enormous private concession (340 000 acres), which means that you will have this wild stretch of Africa all to yourself. Singita Sasakwa Lodge is built in the style of an Edwardian manor house. Stone walls, deep verandas, high ceilings, stately furniture, silverware and ornamental pieces complete the picture. Each cottage has a private infinity-edge pool overlooking ‘where the land stretches to forever’. The bedrooms with inviting four-posters are beautifully appointed, displaying typical African influences with touches of wood, leather and glass, alongside crisp linens, imported chandeliers and hand-crafted furniture.

It is part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem and sits in the path of the great wildebeest migration, providing excellent game viewing.

Sitting atop a hill with awe-inspiring views of the plain below, Singita Sasakwa Lodge is the pinnacle of safari luxury in the style of an English manor house. Managed by Singita, the service and attention to detail here are impeccable. No expense has been spared in furnishing the seven individual cottages, which sit along the ridge of the hill and offer panoramic views for miles around. Each cottage is set in its own secluded garden, the perfect place for guests to relax and forget the world. Choose between your heated infinity edged plunge pool, one of your terraces (equipped with Swarovski telescope), or the opulent drawing room. Each cottage has between one and four bedrooms with an en-suite bathroom (with large shower and roll top bath) attached to each.

When you are feeling refreshed, there is an array of activities to choose from, as well as excellent day and night game drives. Guests can also try their hand at archery, have a relaxing massage in the spa, or set up a tennis tournament on the two outdoor courts.

Best for ambience & design - With a choice of four places to stay, Singita Grumeti Reserves is on a 340,000 acre private concession created by US billionaire Paul Tudor Jones II on the edge of the Serengeti National Park. The nine-cottage Sasakwa Lodge provides the most luxurious accommodation, with beautiful, colonial-style decor, private infinity pools, four-poster beds and claw-footed bathtubs. Sabora Tented Camp comprises nine sumptuous Bedouin-style tents on an open plain; the more cutting-edge Faru Faru Lodge has nine stone, canvas and thatched suites in shady woodland on the Grumeti River. An exclusive new mobile camp, Singita Explore, was launched in June 2011.

X-factor 'The South African design group Cecile & Boyd's has created four wonderfully evocative worlds at Singita Grumeti,' says Gold List contributor Peter Browne. 'Each is distinctive, multi-layered and lavishly attended to. The detailing is just sensational.'

Louisa Verney (Staff)

I knew I had arrived somewhere rather special when we landed at a dusty airstrip equipped with a smart bathroom and Penhaligon toiletries (not something you find on many African airstrips I can assure you). Of course this was only the start and we were yet to be blown away by our stunning ‘room’ (actually a cottage) complete with living room, dressing room, infinity plunge pool (with stunning views of the vast plain below), personal Swarovski telescope and fully-stocked fridge.

I have honestly never met more charming managers but then I wouldn’t expect anything les form a Singita property. The staff were equally attentive and we had a fantastically knowledgeable private guide.

Even by safari standards we were well fed and the huge afternoon tea laid out for us almost removed the need for supper.

The game here is fantastic but Sasakwa Hill Lodge has so much else to offer including a stable of 16 horses (riding gear provided), tennis courts, huge pool and croquet lawn. Coming back late from a game drive, we really just wanted to be on our own and dinner was swiftly arranged on our private terrace by candlelight.

The reserve has great game viewing all year round and also sits right in the path of the wildebeest migration, which passes through in June and July.
