Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Set on the banks of the Grumeti River, Singita's Faru Faru is a small and intimate lodge with just eight beautiful rooms. The lodge is located in the path of the annual great wildebeest migration in the Grumeti Reserve, to the west of the Serengeti.
Situated on a slope, basking in the abundance of animal species and birdlife around it, Singita's Faru Faru Lodge lends a contemporary signature style to safari. Inspired by a botanical theme, this riverside lodge offers barefoot elegance in a laid-back rustic setting.
The organic lines of two rim-flow swimming pools echo those of a watering hole that lies just below. The elevated viewing decks over the watering hole allow guests to view game without even leaving their lodge, and a Swahili-inspired ‘beach’ offers the opportunity for some serious rest and relaxation.
Grumeti Reserves is a private 340,000 acre (140,000 hectare) safari destination bordering the Serengeti National Park to the northeast. As part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem it sits in the path of the great wildebeest migration providing excellent game viewing.
In addition to day and night game drives, guests can make full use of the facilities at Sasakwa Lodge, including tennis. Faru Faru Lodge is completely unfenced so that animals are free to wander close to the lodge as well as coming to drink at the nearby watering hole, which it overlooks. Ideal for couples and families with just nine safari vehicles (for three camps) covering an area almost the size of the Masaai Mara.
Singita Faru Faru Lodge has eight open-style suites and one Villa Suite. The Villa Suite is made up of two identical double bedrooms and a large shared open space lounge/dining area. The bedrooms are all en-suite with a bath and outdoor shower.
Each suite has a reading area, a huge picture window, personal bar and fridge, and a deck with Swarovski spotting scope. Suites have electronic safes, overhead fans, hairdryers, direct dial telephones with US lines and wireless internet access.
There are 7 open-style suites which have air conditioning, a reading area and wireless internet. Each suite has a bathroom with bath and outdoor shower.
The family suite has 2 bedrooms, air-conditioning, reading area, wireless internet and en-suite bathroom with bath and outdoor shower.
The villa suite has two double rooms and a large lounge/dining area. The rooms are air-conditioned and have wireless internet and en-suite bathrooms with bath and outdoor shower.
Children of all ages are welcome at Faru Faru Lodge, although there are no specific childcare facilities. It should also be noted that in the interest of safety, participation of children in any game activities (drives/walks/bike rides) is at the discretion of their guide. Babysitting can be arranged for those that require it.
The main lodge area offers a dining room, bar lounge, library with satellite television, DVD player, outdoor barbecue area, spa and The Singita Shop. It is possible to go horse riding around Faru Faru.
Viewing decks overlooking the waterhole are positioned alongside the heated swimming pool.
(It's also possible to make use of facilities at Singita Sasakwa which include tennis and yoga).
Activities from Singita Faru Faru Lodge include twice daily game drives into the reserve to spot wildlife and to experience the migration. Balloon safaris can be arranged prior to arrival at an extra cost. Tennis is also offered to guests at the nearby Sasakwa Lodge.
Best for ambience & design - With a choice of four places to stay, Singita Grumeti Reserves is on a 340,000 acre private concession created by US billionaire Paul Tudor Jones II on the edge of the Serengeti National Park. The nine-cottage Sasakwa Lodge provides the most luxurious accommodation, with beautiful, colonial-style decor, private infinity pools, four-poster beds and claw-footed bathtubs. Sabora Tented Camp comprises nine sumptuous Bedouin-style tents on an open plain; the more cutting-edge Faru Faru Lodge has nine stone, canvas and thatched suites in shady woodland on the Grumeti River. An exclusive new mobile camp, Singita Explore, was launched in June 2011.
X-factor 'The South African design group Cecile & Boyd's has created four wonderfully evocative worlds at Singita Grumeti,' says Gold List contributor Peter Browne. 'Each is distinctive, multi-layered and lavishly attended to. The detailing is just sensational.'

Any Singita property will always make you catch your breath on entering the lodge and Faru Faru is no exception. It is small, intimate and beautifully designed. The rooms are incredibly stylish with fun cushions and quirky lights all done in earthy tones sensitive to the surroundings. The rooms are completely glass fronted taking advantage of the lovely views by the dry river bed. The lodge is stunning but it is the location of the lodge which is surrounded by teeming game and the unbelievably special Singita hospitality which makes Faru Faru so special. It is a completely private concession area about the same size as the Maasai Mara entirely exclusive to the Singita 3 lodges, so you will see very few other vehicles but have these expansive Serengeti plains to yourselves.
Singita Faru Faru comes at a high price, but the rooms, the food, the service, the guides and the amazing private traversing area for your game drives makes it worth every penny!
