A trip to Swedish Lapland between November and March will allow you to make the most of your chances of catching the Northern Lights. And of course there will be snow on the ground too making husky sledding, snow-shoeing and snowmobiling all possible.

Insider's View

The hotel can store all your winter outdoor wear in a separate room, so you can keep your bedroom cosy and clutter-free.

For an unusual and romantic supper, the hotel will tow its cosy little cabin on skis out to the middle of the frozen lake where a chef will cook up a delicious supper as the northern lights dance above you.

Keep your eyes wide open on the drive to Pine Bay lodge as you are sure to see wild reindeer and you may even see the ever-elusive wild moose!

If you have the opportunity, try the grilled arctic char and the moose meatballs; both were hands down my favorite meals in Sweden.

Pine Bay Lodge is a boutique hotel nestled in the Luleå Archipelago in remote Swedish Lapland. In the classic Swedish red cottage style and with just a handful of guest rooms, Pine Bay is comfortable, warm and welcoming.

On the coast of the Luleå Archipelago in Swedish Lapland lies Pine Bay Lodge. With just eight guest rooms, a stay here will provide an exclusive Lappish experience like no other.

Built in the traditional Swedish red cottage style and, in winter, surrounded by the frozen sea, Pine Bay Lodge offers a warm and welcoming retreat from the cold. All of the guest rooms are spacious and comfortable, and each has en-suite facilities. A real home away from home, the communal area of Pine Bay Lodge is an open-plan lounge and dining room, complete with an open fire, which makes for a great spot for an evening drink with regional delicacies or for swapping stories of the Arctic with your fellow travellers. For those looking to really unwind, Pine Bay Lodge even has its own sauna - the perfect place to relax after a day out in the Lappish wilderness.

Pine Bay Lodge's fantastic location is the star attraction here. The Luleå Archipelago is comprised of around 1300 islands, is home to just 100 residents, and during winter the sea can freeze up to one metre deep. This makes for some truly one-of-a-kind excursions out in this unique landscape. Try snowmobiling out to the furthest islands in the archipelago, or for a real adrenaline rush, explore the frozen sea in a hovercraft! You'll come across huge masses of ice, 250-year old fishing villages, and maybe even some of the local wildlife.
