The climate in New Zealand is incredibly pleasant, with warm and balmy summers and cold crisp winter months with wonderful clear, blue skies. The warmer high-season months of November to April are perfect for outdoor exploration. The colder months of June to August are the best time to ski.

Mahu Whenua Ridgeline Homestead & Eco Sanctuary is a luxury lodge in the heart of the southern lakes. One of New Zealand's most picturesque landscapes, the opulent farmhouse is a home away from home, with plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained.
Mahu Whenua Ridgeline Homestead & Eco Sanctuary is a heavenly property which sits across 500 square kilometres of outstanding natural beauty, all protected by the Queen Elizabeth II National Trust. Maori for 'healing the land', this is far more than your average eco-lodge, and, located just 20-minutes away from Wanaka, it could not be easier to get to.
One of the southern lakes most opulent retreats, Mahu Whenua is made up of four luxurious suites, as well as offering the possibility to be hired exclusively for special occasions (sleeping up to 12). Inside, expect big open fireplaces, Wanaka schist stone walls mixed with recycled woods and a rustic yet opulent farmhouse feel. Each suite features plush beds adorned with cosy throws where you can sit and admire the views from your window. With outdoor seating and bathroom views to die for, it'll be hard to leave.
With the owner's focus on sustainable farming practices and protecting the land, Mahu Whenua is one of the largest privately owned conservation in New Zealand. Spend endless time exploring the different areas of this beautiful region, your concierge can advise you on how to make the most of your time.
After a day exploring Central Otago and the Southern Lakes by foot, 4x4 or even plane, return for some delicious lodge-style cuisine. An afternoon with a cup of warming tea and a piece of cake, cheese platters on the terrace with some wine or pre-dinner canapés by the fire, the team of chefs can cater to your every whim. Each stay includes breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as morning and afternoon teas, canapés, any refreshments including wine and other beverages. Guests can also request picnics which can be served up during their time exploring the great outdoors.
Four luxurious Ridgeline Suites offer guests outstanding vistas and plenty of privacy. Sleeping up to two people, they each feature a king or king-split bed and en suite with bath tub. Two of the suites are located inside the Homestead offering views of Lake Wanaka and the mountains beyond. Meanwhile the two Cottage Suites can be found next to the Homestead, tucked away in a native beech forest overlooking the Motatapu River, mountains and stables.
For those wishing to hire out Mahu Whenua for exclusive use, 12 guests can be accommodated in the four suites plus the Komako family bunkroom which sleeps up to four.
Children are welcome at Mahu Whenua Ridgleline Homestead & Eco Sanctuary but please be aware each room can only sleep up to two people. With exclusive-use bookings, the Komako family bunkroom is great for families and can sleep up to four. There is also a nanny room in the Homestead which can sleep two extra staff if you require childcare.
Guests staying at Mahu Whenua have unlimited access to all of the Homestead facilities. Cosy up by one of the open fireplaces, enjoy a glass of wine in the large open planned living area and take in the expansive views. A delicious variety of hearty yet fine cuisine will be prepared in the fully equipped farmhouse kitchen. Sit down to an evening of fine wines and great gastronomy in one of two dining areas. There is also a games room, library, pool table, as well as plenty of storage and dry room.
Outside, enjoy some alfresco dining in the two dining areas, relax in the spa pool (hot tub), enjoy an early morning swim in the sheltered swimming pool or simply sunbathe on the large decking area overlooking the breathtaking views.

Perfect for active guests, you'll want to spend as much time outside as in the Homestead itself. Explore the four private high country stations, the alpine lakes and shepherd's lodges by 4WD, mountain bike, horse riding or simply hiking. Back at the Homestead, experience the working farm in action or alternatively indulge with some spa treatments, yoga or cooking classes. Guests can also go hunting and fishing nearby which can be arranged by the property.
Just a short distance by air, you can visit the famous Fiordland region. A helicopter can pick you up from right outside the property from where you will take off and fly over mountains, glaciers and the wild West Coast. Stop for a mountain top lunch before heading back for a relaxing afternoon.
