Old Inn Bandipur
  • Charming guesthouse with original features and artwork

  • Located between Kathmandu and Pokhara and ideal for those wanting to get off the beaten track

  • Really welcoming staff and excellent food

  • Don't expect all the bells and whistles - it is for the adventurous traveller

The Old Inn is perfect for those guests who want to escape the usual tourist trail of Kathmandu, Pokhara or Chitwan and is great to stop off when driving to the Annapurna Range from Kathmandu. It is a restored town-house in a town where time has stood still and ideally the town is a traffic-free zone. Old Inn is located right in the main square.

Old Inn itself has retained many of its old features; think low ceilings, narrow staircases and exceptionally low doorways. Those who are tall will spend quite a bit of time bending and ducking but it is half the fun and certainly is a little different. Don't expect bells and whistles with Old Inn; it is a really simple hotel but you stay here for the chance to get off the beaten track and be in a town that offers more spice to a Nepal itinerary. The main terrace has stunning views over the mountains, and the rooms look back over the main square. We always opt for the New Wing, which has en-suite bathrooms. Do expect niggles (water pressure for instance), and do go there with an open-mind. The staff are really attentive and so sweet and always try to add nice little touches like welcome drinks and homemade biscuits. Old Inn isn't for everyone, but if you like something a little quirky and want something amazingly authentic, then this is a perfect place to stop on your travels.

Whilst in Bandipur there are some superb experiences to be done. There is a 4-hour trek to the Magar village of Ramkot, showcasing local farming methods and stunning views. The 4-hour walk to the Siddha Cave is also worth considering to see Nepal's largest cave.
