Swakopmund
Windswept and wild, the coastal town of Swakopmund offers an easy gateway to desert adventures amongst Namibia's dramatic dunes; the adventurous will love sand boarding and quad-biking whilst those looking for something more gentle can kayak alongside sea lions, flamingos and even whales and dolphins! With colourful buildings and a lively atmosphere, Swakopmund has plenty to offer for a few days.
Swakopmund's streets are distinctly German in style and lined with multi-coloured buildings reminiscent of a toy town. Despite being a little peculiar, it is not without charm and is a popular spot for Namibians to retreat to at the weekends giving it an infectious buzz. Dining options abound and there is plenty to keep travellers occupied for a two or three-night stay.
