I wasn't sure what to expect from Anantara Kihavah before my stay here, but I was really impressed with this resort. There were some real 'wow' moments during my stay! Firstly, 'Sea' - the underwater restaurant. This is a must for any guest who stays here. The fish life swimming past the window was fabulous and added something very special to our dining experience. Secondly, I would highly recommend a visit to the Observatory. Their resident Sky Guru (aka The Legend) has worked along side Buzz Aldrin and will fascinate you with his knowledge while showing you the moon craters and Jupiter through the very powerful telescope. The experience was out of this world! As a keen scuba diver I was glad to have had the chance to dive along the house reef which displayed some splendid soft yellow coral, turtles, rays and a huge variety of colourful reef fish. This is also a great spot for snorkelling - so easy, just off the beach. Aside from some amazing experiences, the facilities at Kihavah are excellent (great kids club with a trampoline park, outdoor cinema, Thai boxing ring, beautiful overwater spa, bikes to use) and impeccable service levels. There are 5 dining options to choose from, which is lot for quite a small island - all of them offering amazing cuisine. This resort delivered on every level.

It's hard to find a fault in Anantara Kihavah - they really have thought of everything. The service, the accommodation, the food - everything surpassed my expectations. It's a great approach to an island holiday, with the accommodation looking rustic and natural on the outside, but grand and luxurious on the inside. The beach here wraps around the whole island too, making it ideal for an early morning or evening stroll.

I'd never taken a seaplane before so I was quite excited with the whole concept and it did not disappoint; if it was possible this is how I would fly all the time! After an incredibly scenic 35-minute flight from Male, you soon notice the turquoise colours of the Maldivian water, as you take the short speedboat journey from the seaplane to the island. From the moment we first glimpsed the island we suspected we were in for a treat and once we actually set foot on the jetty, we knew we were in our own version of paradise. After a warm Maldivian welcome from the staff, our villa host whisked us away in a golf buggy to our Beach Pool Villa and treated us to a foot massage before leaving us to settle in. It was a great start to our stay and for the whole time we were there, the service was fantastic, especially considering it had only been open for 6 weeks at the time.
One of the best things about Kihavah is that the island has been kept very natural and nothing feels manicured, there was even a palm tree growing in the middle of our bathroom! The Beach Pool Villas are quite private, with a great size bedroom, huge indoor/outdoor bathrooms and one of the best plunge pools I have seen. A discreet path leads directly to the beach and on a walk around the island we realised that it is very difficult to spot most of the paths to the other villas from the beach, a great plus if you are after privacy. In fact, the only thing we spotted on our walk was a migration of hermit crabs on the beach!
The SEA/FIRE/SALT/SKY bar and restaurant area was not yet complete but we were allowed to take a peek and it was obvious that the best view to be had whilst eating was going to be in the SEA restaurant. It is situated right on the edge of the reef and although it will take some time for the reef to regenerate, there is still an abundance of sea-life to be seen and it can only get better. The SKY bar will be a perfect viewing point to watch the sunset, cocktail in hand of course!
Of the three properties I visited during my stay in the Maldives, Kihavah certainly had the edge with the level of accommodation and I loved the barefoot chic feel the resort has about it. In all honesty, we did experience better service from one of the other more established resorts, but this is usual with any new resorts, and I would certainly be happy to return to Kihavah anytime.
In my view, Kihavah is a brilliant destination for honeymooners or couples looking for an incredibly luxurious, barefoot hideaway.
