Description
Colourful and quirky, Maison Souvannaphoum was once the residence of the late Prince Souvanna Phouma. It's now a beautiful boutique hotel located conveniently close to Luang Prabang's night market and its array of temples and restaurants.
Maison Souvannaphoum is a 25 room boutique hotel that sits within fragrant gardens, just walking distance from the Mekong river and the plethora of boutiques, restaurants and temples found in Luang Prabang. The colonial exterior is nicely complimented by the rich and colourful interiors. It's unique, airy and full of character and we feel it's a haven to return to after a steamy tour of the town.
The rooms boast beautiful polished parquet flooring, king-size beds and garden views. The Garden View rooms are a little on the small side, but with interconnecting options they are perfect for families. For couples wanting more space, we recommend the Champa Room, Laos Room or the Maison Room that sit within the main historic building.
To the back of the property you find a wonderful cool swimming pool, overlooked by the restaurant, Elephant Blanc. Dining here is a real treat, the restaurant serves modern Indo-Chinese cuisine. There's even a 10-course Laos tasting menu, and ideal way to taste the regional dishes of Laos in style. Within the garden you'll also find a small, highly regarded, spa.
Maison Souvannaphoum is a fantastic option for those wanting a bit of comfort in a great location. Run by the Thai group, Angsana, the service levels here are a little better than some of the other boutique options in Luang Prabang. It's a great all-rounder.
Accommodation
There are 24 rooms in total divided into several different categories. The Garden Wing rooms are the most affordable; these are small but perfectly formed, with balconies, polished parquet flooring and king-size beds. Interconnecting rooms are available making this a good option for families. The La Residence Room boasts colonial architecture with colourful Laotian furnishings. This is perfect if you need twin beds. These are located within the La Residence Wing, and offer partial pool views and a king-size bed. The Champa Room, also found in La Residence Wing, is more of a suite. This room boasts a separate lounge, bathtub and views of the garden. The aptly named Laos Room is the resort's second largest room with some traditional Laos art and furnishings. It offers a spacious bathroom, polished wooden floors and garden views. Largest of all is the Maison Room; this wonderfully light and airy room enjoys the same polished parquet floors and feels more luxurious.
Childcare
Maison Souvannaphoum welcomes children, although there are no specific family suites or facilities for children, there are, however, interconnecting rooms in the garden wing which do work well for families of four.
Facilities
Facilities include a spa, the Elephant Blanc restaurant and in-room dining.
Reviews
Clare Barratt (Staff)
Maison Souvanabhoum is probably more of a 4* property. It is a very pretty property with a colonial style like most in Luang Prabang and a really good selling point is that it is within walking distance of town. Service is very good and rooms are totally fine, if you want a balcony opt for a standard room! I would say that this is a good option if you are looking for something towards the cheaper end.
