Laos enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round. The cooler, drier months of the year are from November to March; however, temperatures rarely drop below 22°C during the day. Humidity is highest between May and September, when sunbursts follow tropical downpours and temperatures can climb to 35°C. However, the average year-round temperature is a pleasant 25°C.
To start planning your holiday to Nong Kiau Riverside
Nong Kiau Riverside Resort is located on the banks of the scenic Nam Ou River in the northern town of Nong Khiaw. This is a really great place to stopover en route from northern Laos to Luang Prabang or vice versa, or even spend a few nights here!
Nong Kiau Riverside Resort provides a great stopover base when you journey up or down the Nam Ou river in Northern Laos to or from Luang Prabang. The resort holds a beautiful location on the banks of the river with all bungalows having beautiful views over the water. There are beautiful gardens surrounding the bungalows which add lots of colour and charm to the resort.
There are only 15 bungalows in total so it is a lovely boutique resort. All bungalows are very spacious with 40sqm of space with a big private balcony so you can enjoy the views. There is a restaurant at the resort where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and supper should you wish. But it may be fun to venture out in the evening to a local restaurant of which there are many!
You may just be staying one night here, but if you want to stay a few more there are lots of fun activities to do in the area. You can rent some bikes from the resort to explore the area a bit further, perhaps challenge yourself to the viewpoint trek, maybe do some kayaking on the river or even enjoy a cooking class so you could easily fill a few days here.
There are 15 bungalows at the resort all of the same category - you can have either a twin or double bed set up. Rooms are very spacious so there is room for an extra bed if you are travelling as a family. They have balconies overlooking the river and air conditioning for the warmer months and bed heaters for the cooler months.
Although children are welcome to stay here, there are no specific facilities available for them. An extra bed can be added to the bungalows.
The restaurant serves freshly cooked breakfasts, lunches and suppers. The menu mainly consists of Laotian dishes and a few Thai ones and they are generally very tasty!
The resort can help you organise any tours you may want to do - perhaps some kayaking on the Nam Ou River, some trekking in the mountains or just renting a bike to cycle around the town to take in the local culture.

Nong Kiau Riverside Resort is a good alternative option to Mandala Ou. Located on the other side of the river all the bungalows have lovely views of the Nam Ou River from their balconies. Bungalows are spacious if a little dark because of the wooden interiors. Service was pretty good in a Laotian way. I would say the only major downside is no form of communal relaxing/seating area - only the restaurant.
