Insider's View
To start planning your holiday to Settha Palace Hotel
Description
The city's finest place to stay, Settha Palace is an absolutely charming French colonial style hotel steeped in lots of history, meticulously restored to its former glory and set in the heart of Laos' capital of Vientiane.
Its location in the centre of Vientiane makes the Settha Palace a wonderful place to stay to explore this bustling city. Within the hotel, it is a place of luxury and peace, step outside and you are absorbed by the life of a far eastern town. Explore the many markets and shops and when haggling has taken its toll, you can wander through the streets and find serenity in one of the numerous temples or in the grounds of the presidential palace.
The hotel's rooms and suites all reflect the history of the building (which dates back to 1932) with high ceilings, wooden floors and elegant furnishings. This acknowledgement of the hotel's history is also evident in the restaurants, bars and cafes where food with French, Laotian and Asian influences is served in beautiful surroundings.
Settha Palace's tropical gardens are home to its welcoming pool and laid back poolside restaurant making it not only a base for exploring the city, but also a wonderfully relaxing place to spend an afternoon, or even a day at, while recharging your batteries for the next stage if your trip.
Accommodation
Settha Palace has three Suites and 23 Rooms all facing the pool and picturesque gardens. The 23 Deluxe Rooms have a colonial décor with high ceilings and wooden floors and are spacious enough for a two-seater sofa, coffee table and writing desk. The one Junior Suite features the same elegant décor but has the addition of a spacious living room with comfortable seating area and dining table and the two Executive Suites are larger still with guest bathroom and large living room. All rooms have wireless internet access.

Facilities
The Belle Epoque restaurant and bar serves classical French and seasonal Lao cuisine and for more casual dining one can snack at the Poolside Bar or at the open air Sidewalk Cafe which specialises in fantastic fresh Asian fare. The swimming pool is set in a lush tropical landscaped garden and is a wonderful serene retreat after a day's exploration.
Activities
Settha Palace is perfectly located for exploring the capital and there are a whole host of sights to see in Vientiane including the Presidential Palace, the Cope museum and many colourful markets and temples.
Reviews

In my opinion, Settha Palace is the best place to stay in Vientiane. The hotel really grabbed me with its traditional and elegant style. The lobby, the restaurant and the rooms all had a feeling of grandeur but the atmosphere remained very low key which is a perfect balance in my opinion. The hotel isn't as centrally located as places such a Ansara but it is very easy to get around from here.

My sightseeing tour of Vientiane only lasted for around three hours and that was plenty of time. Although it is the capital, it is really quite a small town and there is not a huge amount on offer for tourists. However, what we did see was really interesting and if time allows, 1-2 nights is the perfect amount to spend here, if only to see what a difference to Luang Prabang it is. Settha Palace is a lovely colonial property in the centre of town and my favourite hotel in Vientiane.
