Average time to visit

Laragai House is open all year round. The main season is in January and February, when the weather is hottest and driest. At this time, the animals in the wildlife parks tend to congregate more around the watercourses, making them easier to spot.

Northern and eastern Kenya temperatures vary from highs of up to 40°C during the day to less than 20°C at night. Rainfall in this area is sparse and, when it does occur, is often in the form of violent storms. July is usually the driest month, and November the wettest.

Description

Originally built as a family country retreat, Laragai private house offers unparalleled seclusion and comfort in a breathtaking setting, perched on an escarpment on a 35,000 acre private working ranch in the Laikipia region of Northern Kenya.

Perched high on a plateau in Kenya’s Laikipia region, and set within a 35,000-acre private working ranch, this eight-bedroom country house offers genuine privacy and luxury.

Surrounded by colourful gardens, Laragai can sleep 16 guests in four double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms. There are also two children's twin rooms that share a bathroom.  The smart interiors combine rich fabrics and rugs as well as handmade furniture. Open log fires, in the two master suites, help to create a romantic atmosphere.

Laragai benefits from outstanding views. In the distance Ol Lolokwe, Wamba Mountain and Mount Kenya stand majestic. The heated swimming pool, which has its own bar, kitchen and bathroom, also comes with a deck overlooking a wildlife-friendly dam rich with elephant, buffalo and lion.

Activities may include day and night drives, guided bush walks, fly fishing, bird watching or horse riding. Helicopter day trips north to the start of Lake Turkana can also be arranged.

This is a perfect African retreat for families as well as groups of friends travelling together.
