L’Arolay

A rustic restaurant in Le Fornet with an open fire, authentic mountain chalet feel and lovely views across the Isere gorge and into the valley below. Serves mainly Savoyard dishes including Raclette, Fondue Bourguignonne, Cremeaux du Pere Francis and Tartiflette. Charming friendly service and really good quality food, although the menu is a little limited. The restaurant is also open for lunch. Closed on Mondays.

La Baraque

A new restaurant and wine bar located on the main high street which is open for lunch as well as dinner. Dishes include lamb shoulder, rib steak, veal stew, chicken supreme and vegetable risotto.

L’Atelier d’Edmond

A gastronomique restaurant in Le Fornet which is open for lunch as well as dinner. It is owned by Jacques Leprivey, grandson of Edmond Leprivey, Val d’Isère’s first ski patroller and do-it-yourself genius! His workshop of tools is on display in one of the themed dining areas. The restaurant prides itself on stunning presentation of some delicious ingredients in elegant surroundings. Although deemed to be quite pricey, the tasting menu is exceptionally good value given the quality of the dishes on offer.

Le Blizzard

The main gastronomic restaurant of the Hotel Blizzard has a relaxed atmosphere. Fresh market produce is used to produce delicious dishes. Alternatively, try La Luge restaurant located underneath the hotel for Savoyard specialities.

Casa Scara

A variation from the norm, this is a small Italian restaurant with some great pasta dishes. Yes you can choose the Bolognaise or Pomodoro, but also consider the Seared Scallops and Fresh Parmesan or the Beef Fillet in Balsamic Vinegar Sauce.

La Casserole

L’Etable d’Alain

Located at the Fromagerie and farm, L’Etable d’Alain serves traditional Savoyard food and is highly recommended.

La Casserole

A cosy traditional Savoyard restaurant, excellent for Fondue and Tartiflette. Full of rustic charm with old wood beams and a great atmosphere. Don’t be late for your table as they have a habit of giving tables away if you are any more than 15 minutes late!

La Corniche

Open for lunch as well as dinner, La Corniche can be found round the corner from the church in the ‘Vieux Village’ but also very close to the foot of the nursery slopes. It serves all the Savoyard dishes you could want including Les Pierres Chaudes (hot stone you cook your own choice of meat on), Fondue and Raclette in cosy, rustic surroundings. Two sittings in the evening restaurant, excellent steaks, can smell very cheesy.

Les Clochetons

Located at the foot of the Santons and Epaule de Charvet runs in the Manchet valley, this is a great place to rest in the sunshine during the day. The open fireplace adds to the cosy charm and warm atmosphere. It’s also a great place to go for dinner, examples of dishes on the dinner menu include Quail with Fig Tatin and Nut Oil, Foie Gras with Apple and Dried Fruits, and Fillet of Wild Boar with Roasted Chanterelles and Bitter Chocolate Sauce.

Jardin des Alpes

A nice little restaurant combining gourmet food and a bistro atmosphere, located in the “Galerie des Cimes” opposite the bus station. As well as the restaurant it also has a high-quality sandwich bar and a delicatessen.

La Grande Ourse

Gastronomic French cuisine in traditional Savoyard décor. This restaurant, located on the snow front, is very popular at lunchtime as well as for dinner. Examples of dishes on the dinner menu include Scallops with Confit Vegetables, Spiced Risotto with Herb salad, Rack of Lamb with Rosemary Butter and Cardamom Crème Brulee. There is a large outside seating area with views across the nursery slopes.

La Luge

Located under the Hotel Blizzard, La Luge offers some of the more traditional Savoyard dishes. Choose from the tartiflette, fondue or beaufort tort followed by the chocolate fondant and green tea ice cream.

La Perdrix Blanche

Located on the high street, La Perdrix Blanche serves a variety of different foods including pizza, pasta, steak, sushi in the evenings and a variety of seafood. Although it serves lots of sushi and shellfish there is a bit of a misconception that it is mainly a seafood restaurant, which it isn’t. The restaurant works well for families because of the variety on the menu and the standard of food produced across the board is consistently good. Seafood platters can be taken away, if ordered in advance.

La Table de l’Ours

The only Michelin starred restaurant in Val d’Isère, La Table de l’Ours comes with mixed reviews – some say it’s an amazing dining experience with outstanding food and some say it’s over rated. All, however, do agree that it’s very expensive! The Rotisserie restaurant next door offers a more relaxed alternative serving a buffet of dishes including beef fillet and lobster and proved quite popular last season.

La Taverne d’Alsace

Under the hotel Kandahar on the main high street, this restaurant serves traditional Germanic style dishes and beers and also features a nice wine bar.

La Vieille Maison

Located in La Daille, this restaurant offers a traditional Savoyard menu to enjoy in a traditional building, formerly a farmhouse that was constructed in 1780. Examples of the menu include Wild Boar Stew, Tarentaise Snails and Veal Kidneys with Morels.

Le 1789

Traditional French cuisine and local Savoyard specialities are served in this rustic style restaurant. The interior is a little dated but quite quirky with its chequered tablecloths and the atmosphere is good. They only offer two sittings, 7.30pm and 9.30pm and the restaurant only seats 60 people, so it gets booked up very quickly. Booking in advance is a must.

Le Lodge

Le Lodge has something for everyone including traditional Savoyard dishes, spare ribs, roast chicken and pizza. Its relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices make it very popular with Val d’Isère regulars, as well as the French locals. The bar downstairs from the restaurant also means it’s very amenable for a pre or post dinner drink or two!

Les Tufs is a large chalet located at the bottom of the slopes in La Daille. It’s a cosy restaurant that serves family recipes made with high quality produce. There is also a snack bar on the terrace for those who want to get quickly back on the slopes.

Maison Chevallot

Val d’Isère’s bakery is renowned throughout France for good reason. Awarded “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” multiple times, Patrick Chevallot’s bread, savouries, pastries and chocolates are spectacular. A small cafe adjacent to the bakery is a great place to sample the delights and for a quick, cheap and hearty skier’s lunch, it is only a short walk from the bottom of the Olympique gondola.

Pier Paul Jack

Located in L’Aigle des Neiges hotel, this is three places in one; Pier is the hotel restaurant, Paul offers an exciting a la carte menu of nouvelle cuisine and interesting food combinations and Jack is a great place to start your evening with pre-dinner drinks and live music. They also offer some tasty Tapas and Sushi if you’re only after a light meal. The Paul a la carte menu is also served in the Jack bar and is ideal for those who want good food in a ‘cool and trendy’ environment.

Quiksilver Coffee Shop

Victor’s

A great little bar and restaurant that serves good quality simple food in a modern environment. They offer a varied menu with dishes including Thai red curry, pulled pork, ribs, burgers, pizzas and salads. There’s also a good selection of starters and desserts. The prices are pretty cheap by Val d’Isere standards too.
