Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The dry season from December to April is considered the best time to visit Costa Rica. The 'green' season runs from May to November and there is more chance of rain during this time with September and October being the wettest months. It is important to plan well in advance for Christmas and New Year to avoid disappointment (ideally a year) as Costa Rica is extremely popular over this time with repeat bookers. Easter and during US school holidays are also best to plan ahead.

Itinerary

A trip to Costa Rica guarantees an assortment of thrilling activities, incredible scenery, tropical temperatures, unusual wildlife and gorgeous beaches! Spot monkeys and sloths as they peer at you from the treetops, sip cocktails whilst enjoying dramatic sunsets and recharge your batteries at some of the country’s most exclusive and luxurious properties.

  1. Fly to San Jose

  2. Days 1-3: Coffee Region, San Jose and Central Valley, Costa Rica

Upon touching down in San Jose, you will be greeted at the airport and whisked off to your boutique hideaway situated on an organic coffee plantation, away from the hustle and bustle of the capital, in Costa Rica’s lush green Central Valley. Finca Rosa Blanca is an architecturally striking and supremely relaxing bolthole, the perfect spot to begin your holiday. After a long flight, take a refreshing dip in the infinity pool, built into the hillside with spectacular volcano views, and unwind with a cocktail or two amongst the tropical gardens. Take dinner at the fabulous onsite restaurant, which emphasises seasonal, organic, locally grown and regionally inspired fare, much of it from the estate itself.

Costa Rican coffee is among the best in the world and given that you are staying on a plantation producing its own beans, you can be sure of a delicious cup to kickstart your morning. After a delicious breakfast, become a real coffee aficionado as you visit a coffee farm and learn all about the process involved in cultivation, harvesting and roasting. By the end, you’ll know exactly what’s required to make the perfect brew.

The rest of the afternoon can be spent doing as much or as little as you like. You may just want to laze around beside the pool, catch up on your favourite podcast or enjoy a massage at the spa, or for those still charged off the caffeine there are walking trails to be explored around the property. Horse riding excursions and volcano hikes can also be arranged if you’re feeling particularly active.

Accommodation: Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Plantation Resort (2 nights)

  3. Days 3-6: Osa Peninsula

It’s an early start as you take to the skies and fly towards the country’s wild and remote Pacific coastline, where you’ll spend the next few days discovering Costa Rica’s famous flora and fauna. The flight itself is spectacular as you are rewarded with panoramic vistas of large swathes of verdant jungle, sweeping sandy bays and glistening waters. El Remanso is a secluded eco-lodge on the Osa Peninsula, offering unparalleled experiences and a blissful balance between relaxation and adventure.

Embark on a series of thrilling ocean and rainforest encounters, allowing you to get up close and personal with some of Costa Rica’s most famous wildlife. It’s common to see and hear howler and white-faced monkeys, screeching macaws and the odd sloth or two around the lodge, so always have your camera phone ready! Enjoy wonderful hiking opportunities, exploring virgin rainforest and cool off under cascading waterfalls. Glide silently through mangroves on a kayak, hit the open waters by boat in search of whales and dolphins and have a go at stand-up paddle boarding (so gracious looking once you get the hang of it).

It’s an opportune time to switch off from all the usual distractions of home and work life, and just enjoy present company amongst lush beautiful surroundings.

Accommodation: El Remanso Lodge (3 nights)

  4. Days 6-8: Arenal

built into the foothills of the iconic Arenal volcano and surrounded by tropical rainforest brimming with tropical coloured flowers. At Amor Arenal, each luxurious hideaway is spread throughout the jungle, with wraparound wooden balconies and floor-to-ceiling glass designed to make the most of the views. We think the thermally heated plunge pools are the ideal spot to enjoy a glass of fizz after an adrenaline packed day whilst admiring the view of the volcano.

This central region of Costa Rica is one of the world’s most topographically diverse and it plays host to a range of exciting outdoor activities such as white-water rafting, volcano trekking, horseback riding across ancient lava fields, canyoning, rappelling, kayaking, zip-wiring and canopy tours. If there is anything in particular you’d like to do please let us know and we can arrange it for you. We have included a safari boat ride through the Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge, one of the most important wetlands in the world. As you cruise along, admire the richness of the region’s flora and fauna, spotting caiman as they bask on the riverbank, monkeys playing in the trees above and birds flying overhead. It’s a true wildlife paradise!

    Accommodation: Amor Arenal (2 nights)

  5. Days 8-12: Papagayo Peninsula

Arguably, we have saved the best until last for you. Nestled within a 123-acre private patch of tropical dry forest, on the shores of some of Costa Rica’s most secluded and beautiful beaches lies Kasiiiya Papagayo, a luxurious eco-retreat of just a handful of uber-exclusive tented suites with jaw dropping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.

Each of the standalone tented suites is set on a wooden platform with a huge wraparound decking area affording wonderful views. Inside, timber floors and vast expanses of glass seamlessly blend the outside with the elegant interiors, furnished with cloudlike king size beds, a sitting area and luxurious open-air bathroom with roll top bath so you can watch the twinkling sky whilst enjoying a late night soak.

Latin American flavours and locally sourced, organic ingredients feature heavily. You can expect tropical fruits, seasonal vegetables and freshly caught fish on a daily-changing menu that includes ceviche, tacos and delicious desserts. Atop a steep hill sits the Sunset Lounge, an idyllic location for cocktails and canapes as the sun sinks low over the Pacific Ocean and turns the sky into a watercolour of burnished gold, crimson red and deep purple. We wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that a photo taken here will end up being your new screensaver image!

Wellness and nature are important elements of the Kasiiya experience, with yoga and meditation sessions held each morning and afternoon. You can borrow snorkelling gear to explore the crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life. Kayaking, surfing, paddle boarding and fishing excursions are all available for those in search of some more high-octane thrills. You mustn’t pass up the option of a visit to Kasiiya’s spa. With the jungle as a soundtrack, enjoy unique wellness experiences and treatments, using freshly prepared natural oils, indigenous herbs and muds to restore harmony and tranquillity, preparing you for your journey back home.

    Accommodation: Kasiiya Papagayo (4 nights)

  6. Fly home

There should be enough time for a leisurely breakfast and a final swim in the ocean, before transferring to the international airport to check in for your flight home.
