With a warm climate most of the year, the Nicoya Peninsula is known for its great weather. However, during the rainy season from April to November most of the roads can get quite impassable due to rivers washing them out. Mid November trade winds from the north-east arrive, marking the end of the rainy season. The following months these offshore winds, called Papagayo, relief the heat and provide perfect surf conditions. Sunshine is guaranteed during the high-season months of January - April. During this long and pronounced dry season many trees and shrub drop their leaves which makes it easier to spot animals.
In May a mellow rainy season follows which the tourism industry has dubbed the Green Season.
It's the time of the year preferred by eco-tourists as nature is verdant green, sunsets multi-hued, and many hotels offer low season rates.
Flor Blanca is a secluded retreat on Costa Rica's picturesque Nicoya Peninsula near the laid back village of Santa Teresa, which combines the comforts of a fine resort with the adventure of a tropical jungle hideaway and world-class surf.
Flor Blanca is located on 7 acres of beach, hidden among almond and plumeria trees. This romantic escape has ten luxurious villas decorated with an interesting combination of Balinese furnishings and local artwork.
There is a lovely two-tiered swimming pool with landscaped waterfall set amongst lush gardens, a bar, an alfresco restaurant, an art studio and a teak-floored dojo in the garden for Pilates. There is also a fantastic spa, largely constructed of bamboo, surrounded by waterfall filled pools and lush vegetation. The Bamboo Spa boasts four treatment rooms, a giant Jacuzzi and offers a wide range of massages, facials, wraps, rubs and scrubs.
Wake up to a delicious freshly ground Costa Rican coffee or why not try some of the mouth watering Pacific Rim fusion seafood in the hotel's Nectar restaurant. Guests can enjoy hikes to the nearby waterfalls at Montezuma, guided nature tours of the Cabo Blanco Absolute Wildlife Refuge, surf lessons, fishing and horse riding.
Seven one-bedroom and three two-bedroom deluxe and superior villas are nestled into the jungle and designed with a quiet elegance that highlights local arts and crafts. Each individual villa offers privacy while peaking out through the colourful tropical vegetation. Each one features a spacious open air living area with comfortable seating, complete with a hand-made Costa Rican hammock for two, hanging at the dramatic opening to the lush jungle greenery. The bathroom is creatively designed in a garden setting and the air conditioned bedroom is fitted with a king size bed adorned with luxurious linens. The second bedroom in the two bedroom villas has two twin beds and a day bed.
Deluxe Villas I and II are situated with a direct view to the beach and present stunning views of the beautiful Pacific, just a minute's walk away.
"Honeymoon House" offers ultimate privacy, personal beach access, a full kitchen for dedicated chef services if desired, and a beachside palapa for napping. The upstairs king bedroom windows open wide to the nearby surf from a floral canopy deck.
Children over 6 years of age are welcome at the hotel, and babysitting can be arranged upon request, but there are no specific facilities or interconnecting rooms available.
Facilities at Flor Blanca include a delightful split level swimming pool, fitness centre, yoga centre, Pilates dojo, naturalist guide, music room, art and pottery centre, poolside dining offering delicious Pacific Rim fusion cuisine, bar and water sports hire
Flor Blanca offers a wealth of activities including horse riding, kayaking, fishing, snorkelling, waterfall tours, tours of the Cabo Blanco Absolute Wildlife Refuge, zip line adventure and surfing.
On a long blond beach, a winding path leads through overgrown tropical gardens to eight airy villas. Sitting rooms with soaring ceilings are cooled by ocean breezes, and chic outdoor bathrooms invite you to bathe by candlelight under the stars. The bedrooms are romantic cocoons, with soft linens and sumptuous beds. There's a smart new spa, a gorgeous yoga space, and a hip modern restaurant serving top-notch Pacific-rim cuisine.
