The Guangxi region experiences a subtropical climate, with short, cold winters and long, humid summers with monsoon rains. The majority of the rains fall in May and June, bringing with them intense humidity but turning the stunning landscape the most luscious shades of green. The winter months are damp and windy, with average temperatures hovering around 8°C. Spring and Autumn are the prime times to visit Guanxi, with pleasant temperatures, sunny skies and minimal rainfall.

Li-An Lodge, perched on the top of the Longji Terraces in Longsheng County, offers incredible views over the stepped rice terraces below. With unique character and just 16 individually designed rooms, this is without doubt the highlight hotel in Ping'an.
Located hovering above the town of Ping'an, with mesmerising views over the cascading rice terraces below, Li-An Lodge is uniquely designed and full of character. Using traditional Chinese design features the property has a beautiful sense of place and charming atmosphere.
With just 16 individually designed and named rooms, each offers a different character. The names of each room denotes the different design influence and even though not expansive in size do provide a very comfortable stay with en suite bathrooms and most coming with breathtaking views of the rice terraces below.
There is one main restaurant at the Li-An Lodge which offers a combination of local and western cuisine and a lovely library and lounge in which to relax after days hiking in the surrounding countryside.
The real draw of Li-An Lodge comes from its unrivalled position above Ping'an village with panoramic views over surrounding houses and countryside below. Ping'An is a sleepy village with no cars or roads but instead winding cobbled footpaths, elegant wooden houses and a real feeling of stepping back to old world China.
There are just 16 rooms at Li-An Lodge, 2 of which are suites. Each room shows off the stunning and traditional Chinese architecture accentuated by original design features. The Suites and Terrace Rooms come complete with breathtaking views of the rice fields as some of the standard rooms do have partial views of the terraces. The accommodation of Li'An Lodge is absolutely charming with a unique and special atmosphere.
Children are welcomed at Li-An Lodge but there are no dedicated facilities available and there are no connecting room options.
Li-An Lodge provides a delightful main restaurant with the backdrop of the stunning rice terraces. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily with a changing set menu depending on the season and what is available in the markets.
The area around Li-An Lodge is breathtaking for its natural beauty. There are a huge amount of trails that you can explore in the area and small remote villages to visit where the Zhuang and the Yao nationalities still promote their traditional culture. One of the most striking areas to visit is the Dragon Back Rice Terrace which is located approximately 27 kilometres southeast of Longsheng County and it is considered as the most amazing terrace in China.

Longsheng is a small village located high in the mountains surrounded by spectacular rice terraces which fall down the surrounding slopes into the valley below. Li Ann Lodge is at one of the highest points of the village and staying here is all about the incredible views over these terraces. We went for a fantastic hike along what is known as the dragons backbone, a small ridge of terraces winding along the top of the hills. Its a wonderful place to hike surrounded by forests and rice terraces farmers in traditional dress going about their business around you. The hotel itself is more like a bed and breakfast, very small with individually named and decorated rooms. You pay more for a room facing out over the valley but the views are worth it. Shoes come off upon entering the hotel and are stowed away, you are given traditional slippers to wear instead which I really liked. The hotel has a small restaurant serving a simple breakfast and set menu dinner each night. We decided to dine in one of the local village restaurants on the advice of our guide as it had an outdoor terrace and the food there was excellent.

Perched on top of rows upon rows of rice paddy terraces, Li An Lodge offers incredible views over the surrounding countryside. Inaccessible by road, the 30-minute climb up hill from the parking lot through the winding side streets of the small town of Ping'An are well worth it when you are greeted by such a magnificent vista. The hotel has just 16 rooms and is much more of an intimate guest house rather than luxury hotel. Each room is individually decorated and beautifully arranged with unique design features which completely compensate for the small bedrooms and bathrooms.
The staff here are completely charming but you cannot expect the same level of luxury as other larger properties in China. However I think that this adds to the atmosphere as you are off the beaten track and really surrounded by the incredible countryside.
