Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June.

Sydney is great to visit year round but if you want warm sun and dry weather it is best to try between November and April. Their winter months of May - October usually have mild weather so you can still enjoy all the sights.

Sydney is a cosmopolitan, dynamic and exciting city and the luxury Shangri-La Sydney hotel has an excellent central location for all of its attractions, with the added bonus of stunning views over the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

This luxuriously appointed city hotel is situated right in the Rocks area, overlooking the iconic Sydney sights. From the Shangri-La Sydney you can walk to many of Sydney's main sites including Circular Quay, the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Harbour Bridge and the city's main shopping and commercial districts.

With over 500 rooms and suites spread over nearly 40 floors, Shangri-La Sydney is a large hotel, but with superbly appointed furnishings, excellent service and all the facilities you could want during a city break. Rooms and suites at Shangri-La Sydney are the largest of their kind in Sydney and all have breathtaking views of the harbour. The suites have the addition of a living room and unique baths which are at window level so you can keep the spectacular view in sight at all times.

The Shangri-La Sydney also offers some of the city’s finest dining, with the award winning and exclusive Blu Horizon Bar and Altitude Restaurant with the finest Australian contemporary cuisine. Both of which have floor to ceiling windows and offer amazing views over the harbour from their position on the hotel's 36th floor. The hotel also has Cafe Mix for international cuisine and a welcoming Lobby Bar. The Horizon Club Floor extends several benefits to its guests, including complimentary breakfast in its lounge along with complimentary afternoon tea and cocktails and VIP check in. The rooms on this floor have a different colour palette, lovely blues and creams to reflect the harbour colours, and are our favourites at the hotel.

The Shangri-La Sydney has a 24-hour health club with an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and sundeck. CHI, the spa at the Shangri-La, draws inspiration for the original Shangri-La legend and is a place of peace and well being. Treatments and massages here are based on authentic natural healing methods found in so many Asian cultures and focus on ensuring that chi (the life force that governs well being and vitality) flows freely through the body.

Within walking distance of many of the city’s main attractions, the Shangri-La Sydney is great value for money and is the first choice for many of Sydney's visitors.

The Shangri-La's 565 luxuriously appointed rooms and suites are all exquisitely appointed and have marble bathrooms, up to date in room technology and large windows for maximising natural light and the stunning views they all afford. For a 270 degree view of the harbour, bridge and opera house go for a Premier Grand Harbour View Room. The various suites offer additional space with extra living rooms or for an exclusive retreat choose a Horizon Club Room with extra services, privileges and amenities.

The Shangri-La Sydney welcomes children and families and connecting rooms and babysitting are both available on request. Sydney has so many attractions for children including the monorail, aquarium, zoo and Maritime Museum.

The Shangri-La Sydney has two restaurants and two bars. The Blu Bar and Altitude restaurant are both on the hotel's 36th floor and have stunning vistas of the city as well as cosmopolitan settings. The hotel has a fully equipped fitness centre, Jacuzzi, indoor swimming pool, sundeck and a soothing, oasis-like spa.

The Shangri-La offers cooking classes regularly with the hotel's award winning chef for those keen to learn the art of modern cuisine, however, most of the activities on offer are outside the hotel and Sydney seems to have something to suit all tastes.

The Shangri-La Sydney has some of the best views of the city, overlooking Circular Quay, the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. The Horizon Club rooms are stunning and have extra perks such as fast-track check-in on the Club floor, a separate lounge serving breakfasts, snacks and drinks throughout the day and evening. These are well worth the extra. My favourite room was the Premier Grand Harbour View room - the bed faces the Opera House so you can wake up in the morning to one of the city's most iconic views. Service here is impeccable, and facilities are extensive. If you don't mind being in a larger hotel, and location and service are high on your wishlist, you can't go wrong with the Shangri-La.

There was a recent refurbishment here, making it a real contender again amongst the many luxurious options in Sydney. The hotel is a tall tower, just set back from Circular Quay but with all the upper floor rooms having spectacular harbour views. I really liked the large, light rooms and the views were very special. But the best thing was the Horizon Club lounge and I would almost always recommend this, it is definitely worth the extra. There is no better way to start the day than breakfast overlooking the sparkling blue harbour with the sun shining on the boats and ferries. Shangri-La is also really good value for money and a good option for families with lots of sets of connecting rooms.
