In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June.
Sydney is great to visit year round but if you want warm sun and dry weather it is best to try between November and April. Their winter months of May - October usually have mild weather so you can still enjoy all the sights.

Harbour Rocks has a superb location in the heart of Sydney's historic Rocks district, a short walk from Circular Quay and an endless choice of restaurants and bars. This boutique hotel has just 59 rooms, offering a good value base for exploring the city.
Harbour Rocks Hotel is a historic building, dating back to 1887 when it was used as a wool store for Australia's booming wool trade. There are 59 rooms in this charming boutique hotel, set over three floors and in an adjoining extension. The location is a real draw, right in the heart of the Rocks district which is full of independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, and plenty of museums too. Circular Quay with its views of the Sydney Opera House, is just a three or four minute stroll away.
The main lobby has sofas and a library, along with Eric's Bar where you can enjoy coffee and pastries in the daytime and cocktails and wine in the evenings. There is a small restaurant, Scarlett, with exposed original sandstone walls. There is a small fitness room and a lovely courtyard terrace overlooking Nurses Walk.
The rooms are simply but stylishly decorated, with dark grey walls and pops of vibrant oranges and yellows for colour. Each has high speed WiFi internet, minibar and LED TVs. Our favourite rooms are the Heritage Deluxe category, and the Studio Suites, the latter of which have lots of additional space and a sofa that pulls out into a sofa bed. The bathrooms in all rooms are small and basic, a result of the limitations of the historic building. The Executive Harbour View Suite is the best room in the hotel, located on the top floor and enjoying views of Circular Quay and the Opera House.
It's an ideal option for couples looking for a more characterful place to stay than one of the city's corporate or international hotel brands, and the staff are really charming.
