In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June.
Outback New South Wales is great to visit year round but if you want warm sun and dry weather it is best to try between November and April.

There are 36 one-bedroom Heritage Villas, three two-bedroom Wollemi Villas and 1 private lodge, all with private pools. The Heritage Villas are constructed in Federation Style from wood and stone and the views from the deck, the pool and within are stunning. Earthy tones, thick natural cottons and linens and locally crafted furniture reflect timeless elegance. Wollemi Villas are like private lodges and with two bedrooms and plenty of living space both inside and out, are ideal for a family. All suites feature: private pool, courtyard garden, fireplace, separate living room and bedroom, en-suite with twin vanities and separate shower and bathtub, walk in wardrobe, air con, TV, DVD and sound system, Wi-Fi, hairdryer, safe and mountain bikes.
Constructed from wood and stone materials and designed in Federation-style, Heritage Villas are ideal for single guests, or couples looking for luxurious surroundings on a romantic break. Each has a private aspect offering stunning views of the valley beyond. A private pool features its own deck surrounded by a garden of native plants and shrubs, and a spacious verandah adjoins it.
Inside, a central, double-sided fireplace of local sandstone separates the bedroom from the living area. Great attention to detail has been paid to ensure the fixtures and fittings are reminiscent of the Federation period; right down to the last hinge, light switch and glass blown shade. Warm, earthy tones and thick, neutral linens, are complemented by locally-crafted wood furniture that typifies the lodge's timeless style and elegance.
Villas feature the latest in entertainment and Internet technologies, while thoughtful extras, such as binoculars, let you get up close and personal with the wildlife without having to leave the deep-cushioned comfort of the sofa.
A luxurious ensuite bathroom features twin vanities, separate shower and bath, while the indulgent Babor bathroom therapies are 100 per cent biodegradable.
An ideal family retreat or perfect luxury honeymoon hideaway, each of the three Wollemi Villas presents as a private lodge. With a large living room, separate lounge and dining area and two spacious bedroom suites, Wollemi Villas offer guests the convenience of two ensuite bathrooms.
Each suite takes full advantage of the expansive views and backdrop of imposing escarpments. The suites are thoughtfully arranged to provide families with sufficient space as well as separate areas, to be together, or find a peaceful nook to curl up and enjoy a good book. The main bedroom has a king-size bed, while the second suite is furnished with a king-size zipper bed, which can easily be separated into two king singles.
Whether dining in and celebrating with a family meal, watching a film from the resort's extensive collection, relaxing on the verandah or enjoying a dip in the pool, the Wollemi Suites offer the perfect environment to make the most out of the unique location.

When I first heard about this new development I was a bit sceptical as I thought that the resort would be too big and too bling for the beautiful part of the Blue Mountains it was being designed for. But I was totally wrong and this is now one of my favourite properties in all of Australia. About an hour from Lilianfels, this is a much more unspoilt area with incredible wildlife all around. The suites are stunning, beautifully finished with every luxurious touch you can think of. After my drive, I really enjoyed a chilled glass of wine out on the deck by my private plunge pool, looking out at the kangaroos hopping around in the setting sun. The rates are all inclusive and although not cheap, you really do get a lot for your money. The game drive was fantastic and you can also choose from horse riding amongst many other options. The spa is a must, one of the best treatments Ive had anywhere - I do think looking out at such a spectacular setting helps. As there are 2 and 3 bedroom suites it is great for families (I would suggest slightly older children so they can enjoy the activities) and perfect at the beginning of your holiday, being whisked up here straight from the airport, either by car or treating yourself to a helicopter.
