La Veranda is a charming boutique hotel, located on the sandy shores of Vietnam's Phu Quoc island. With colonial-inspired décor, La Veranda aims to be a home away from home, offering a relaxed atmosphere combined with warm and friendly service.
The accommodation at La Veranda features beautiful patterned tiles, and wooden shutters, typical of Vietnamese colonial-style design. The colour palette mixes pastels, including soft lilacs, yellows and greens. All of the rooms have a terrace or balcony, and some boast lovely views towards the ocean.
The hotel has two restaurants. Pepper Tree is in the property's fine dining restaurant located in the main building, serving Vietnamese and Fusion cuisine. Le Jardin is more of a concept than an actual restaurant, with an all-day dining menu available by the pool and on the beach, with tables and chairs set up on a beachside deck during high season. There are various theme nights throughout the week, including a beach BBQ and Vietnamese street food. Le Bar is an elegant place to enjoy a drink, although there is a live band each evening which creates more of a lively atmosphere.
La Veranda is situated on a pristine stretch of beach with fine sand and clear waters. There is also an excellent pool, a tranquil spa and attentive staff to look after your every need. In high season, guests can enjoy daily treats like afternoon tea or a wine tasting session, as well as home-made sorbets brought to you by the pool or on the beach.
Should you wish to venture out of the hotel, there are lots of local restaurants and bars on the beach and behind the property.
There are 70 rooms and suites at La Veranda, spread out across a number of buildings throughout the tropical grounds. The design is colonial-inspired, but with contemporary touches, and all the modern conveniences you would expect, such as air-conditioning, WiFi, tea and coffee making facilities, a TV, safe box and minibar.
All of the rooms are spacious and have a balcony or terrace. The higher room categories have bathtubs, and some boast wonderful ocean views.
Children are welcome at La Veranda. There is a Kids Club, however this is more for arts and crafts or a film on rainy days rather than a fully developed programme, although it is supervised. However in summertime, which is the most popular season for families, there is an excellent Kids Activities Programme. There is also a children's pool attached to the main pool.
There are two restaurants at La Veranda, with The Pepper Tree serving Vietnamese and Fusion cuisine, and Le Jardin offering more casual all-day dining on the beach and by the pool. There is a lovely main pool, children's pool and whirlpool. The wellness centre offers spa treatments and a gym.
La Veranda has complimentary kayaks and body boards, as well as complimentary yoga classes. There is also volleyball and badminton equipment. Complimentary bicycles are available for those wishing to go out and explore.
Further afield, the hotel offers day trips to a private island, where there is nothing but sandy beach and jungle, and coral reefs off the shore, which are good for snorkelling. Other boat trips can also be arranged, including a general tour of the island and fishing. Diving is usually available from October through to April, and there are some great sites for coral and tropical fish, although this is weather-dependent.

The aim of La Veranda is to feel like it is a home away from home, and the main building certainly feels very homely, with lots of nice touches like local art.
The rooms are very comfortable, although they ever so slightly toe the line between local charm and kitsch. The main pool is lovely, and the beach is fantastic - a big wide stretch of soft sand, and amazing sunset views.
If you like to head out of an evening, the location is perfect, with lots of locals bars and restaurants within a short walk. Guests may wish to make the most of this, as there is a live band at the hotel each evening, which is not everyone will like.

La Veranda has a stunning French colonial design with beautiful interior decor which I absolutely loved. There are also great dining options here with something different each night such as Vietnam Street Food Journeys which was great! The beach either side of the hotel has become quite built up but the hotel still does occupy one of the best spots along the stretch.
