The ski season in the United States is longer than that in Europe. Most resorts open sometime in November, with Thanksgiving (the fourth Thursday in that month) being a common opening time, and stay open until mid to late April. The Rocky Mountains in Colorado and Wyoming have the highest peaks and due to the semi-arid climate, have abundant snowfall with some great powder. The exceptionally high altitude means December through to February can be extremely cold, with temperatures sometimes reaching as low as -12C, although the skiing conditions remain very good. Warmer temperatures in the Spring mean more variable skiing conditions and softer, forgiving snow.

The Viceroy is the most luxurious hotel over in Snowmass and in a wonderfully ski in / ski out location. The hotel is super modern and the interior is incredibly slick, mirrored by the service provided by the staff. The bar has wonderful facilities including a beautiful spa on the lower ground floor, offering a whole array of treatments, and a cosy bar with roaring fireplace. The hotel offers a variety of dining options from the fine dining cuisine at Eight K to a pub-inspired menu at the Nest Public House. The hotel is just a short shuttle from the base of Snowmass where the ski schools meet and the other facilities home.

Viceroy is in a great ski in and out location - some would say that it even has it's own chair lift which accesses the main ski area. With such great family room selections this is a perfect base for families in Aspen with the more gentle skiing for children right on your doorstep. There are two main dining options here EightK which is your more formal and extravagant style and my favourite Nest Public House which is more of a Gastro Pub a good offering for families.

This hotel is great for families as it has some lovely residences from 1-4 bedroom which allows guests to be a lot more independent. The restaurants in this hotel are great and the on-slope location means that teenagers can pop out by themselves.
