Onyado Chikurintei is a traditional Japanese ryokan known for its fine use of nature to create award-winning accommodation. Each of its eleven rooms is set in an exclusive spot with views of Mt. Mifune and the gardens of Mifuneyama Rakuen.

At Onyado Chikurintei, guests can wander amidst the hundreds of thousands of trees, which are colorful and enigmatic in every season. Azaleas and spring maples light the way in spring, while golden leaves reflect off the waters of private baths in the autumn.
Each of the rooms is hidden away in the garden’s 495,000 square meters to provide intimacy and tranquillity. Some of the rooms are traditionally Japanese in style with tatami mats, while others effortlessly blend Western influences like double beds and indoor baths. Outdoor hot spring fed baths are the perfect place for rejuvenation and are a feature of some of the rooms. The VIP room has hosted Japanese royalty, and has the largest outdoor bath and a kitchenette.
Dining options are led by locally-sourced, seasonal produce such as lobster and beef. Chefs create bespoke menus which fit with the environment and food is beautifully presented in traditional Japanese porcelain; a taste of perfection. Some rooms have the option to enjoy private dining on bamboo-lit terraces as the sun goes down over the forest and mountain. There’s also a tea bar, where you can sip local drinks with stunning views. Public baths at the accommodation are fed by the hot spring waters of nearby Takeo Onsen Spa and are beautifully presented alongside bamboo groves, granite and cypress.

Each of the eleven guest rooms is unique, and designed with the surrounding environment in mind. They all have views of Mt. Mifune and they all have aspects which combine comfort with nature. Take the flat stones which house the outdoor, private hot spring baths, for example, or the terraces which open out on to the garden’s forest. Japanese style rooms have tatami mats, or there are rooms with Western beds. The VIP room has hosted royalty, and has the added benefit of a kitchenette.

Children are welcome at Onyado Chikurintei, however there are no specific facilities or dining options for them.

Chefs make the most of locally-sourced, seasonal produce to design the restaurants’ customized menus. Tempt your taste buds with lobster from the Genkai Sea or Saga beef, served to perfection in traditional Japanese porcelain. There’s also an open-air tea bar exclusively for guests, where drinks are savoured sat at dimly lit low-level tables, just as the locals do.

The ryokan’s gardens and hot springs provide the ultimate haven of tranquillity. Wander underneath Mt. Mifune on trails through hundreds of thousands of trees, which radiate beauty in every season.
