Trekking Through the Limestone Karts of Yangshuo

Surrounded by towering limestone outcrops and grey ‘sugarloaf’ mountains, the lush fields and verdant landscapes of Yangshuo are bisected by the beautiful Li River, its serene waters offering a beautiful route for today’s walk. Leaving your hotel at around 8am, you’ll take a short drive from Yangshuo to begin the walk at Hebaoshan. Wind along the Li River, through the bucolic countryside with its luxuriant color palette of greens framed by the dramatic limestone rock formations of the mountains. You’ll have a chance to travel by ferry down the river to enjoy a rest and to soak in the picturesque landscape at a languid pace, before continuing on foot to a local village for lunch.
From here you walk on to the historic village of Xinping, which dates back over 1000 years and is famed for its Ming and Qing dynasty buildings. With a backdrop of sugarloaf mountains, Xingping combines its ancient history with an impossibly picturesque setting, immortalised on the Chinese 20 Yuan note, and is an idyllic destination after a day’s trekking. Take your time to explore the village, observing local life and mingling with the residents before being driven back to Yangshuo where you’ll be treated to a foot massage to ease weary feet.
