Northern Thailand
Surrounded by the country’s tallest mountains and scattered with paddy fields, northern Thailand is a place of calm and traditional Thai culture. There are endless things to do here, from trekking through the rural countryside the intriguing hill tribes, encountering elephants, golf, and shopping in local markets selling locally-made handicrafts.
As Thailand’s second largest city, Chiang Mai is well worth a visit. With a backdrop of sprawling paddy fields and spectacular mountains, spread across the old town you will find many interesting wats. Stay a few nights here to discover both the old and new side of this enchanting city.
Further north still in province of Chiang Rai sits the sleepy river town of Chiang Saen. Here you can stay in beautiful hotels with views across the Golden Triangle where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand converge. The city of Chiang Rai itself is also a perfect gateway to the north, a laid-back city which sits apart from the chaos of Bangkok and the sandy beaches of the south.
