Layana Resort & Spa is an intimate and very welcoming retreat on the island of Koh Lanta Yai just to the south of Krabi. Luxurious rooms, a beautiful beach, lush grounds and fabulous service will await you when you descend from your boat transfer.
Layana Resort & Spa is the sort of place where you instantly feel at home. The warm welcome you receive on arrival is extended throughout your stay, the easy going nature and smallness of the resort means that you get to know it well. Staff make the effort to talk to you and there is a canapés and wine hour held every evening for those of you who want to be sociable. However, you can just enjoy the refreshments from the cosiness of the bar in privacy.
The beach here is wonderfully sandy and is furnished with sun loungers for your comfort. There is also a fabulous pool area with plenty of sun loungers and shaded areas. The restaurant is located at the beach front which gives you some lovely views whilst you enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is a bar nearby with an excellent cocktail list.
Rooms and suites are dotted around the luscious looking lawn which is at the centre of the resort. Rooms have a lovely clean feel to them and are very spacious but there are no private pools. But being such a small resort, it is easy to walk to the main pool and here you will have attendants to bring you refreshments.
Koh Lanta itself offers lots to keep you busy during the day if you can bear to tear yourself away from the beach. There is some great snorkelling to be found nearby and trekking paths to be completed.
Layana is very much adult orientated as such children are not allowed. So this makes it a great honeymoon option for those looking for somewhere a bit more peaceful.
Layana has 57 guest rooms and suites in total and they are split into just three categories - Garden Pavilion, Beach Suite and Ocean Deluxe Suite. All categories are designed with a similar Thai style and fresh white décor and splashes of coloured silk. Rooms are furnished with either king size beds or twin beds, a daybed, large balcony and bathrooms with both a bathtub and shower.

Children are not permitted to stay at Layana Resort, we would recommend Pimalai as an option if you are travelling as a family.
Layana is home to Sea Sky Restaurant which is located at the edge of the beach looking out to the sea. You can enjoy your meals inside or alfresco on the deck. The menu is varied offering classic Thai food as well as international dishes. There is a dress code, but don't worry it is still casual, just no gym shorts, bathing suits, flip flops and sleeveless shirts, so no need to pack your suit. Sundowners Bar is also located on the beach and there is a happy hour each evening from 5pm to 7pm.
The Linger Longer Spa has a garden setting and is complete with a sauna, shock shower and hydro massage pool. The spa treatment list offers a variety of massages, scrubs, body treatments and facials.
The infinity salt water pool and poolside Jacuzzi provide a great place to relax and refresh during the day. There is also a fitness room and a library on site.
There is plenty to do during your stay at Layana. You can explore the island by land or by sea with a variety of excursions available. The sundowner cruise is particularly special, you leave the resort at about 4.30pm and cruise through the mangrove forests and around the island seeing a variety of wildlife en-route whilst enjoying some yummy snacks and drinks on board.

Layana Resort & Spa took me quite by surprise. Hidden away on Koh Lanta is this wonderfully sophisticated retreat. I was particularly taken by the size of it, with just 50 rooms and without having vast grounds it made it so much more welcoming and homely than some of the larger resorts. There is a lush green lawn at the centre of the accommodation and then you can walk down to the delightful each area where you will find the restaurant, bar, pool and of course beach. There is however quite a sociable atmosphere here, so it is a great option if you are that way inclined. Each evening there are canaps and wine giving you a chance to chat to other guests and staff. I found it quite intriguing to learn more about the history of the hotel and of the local area from the staff and to hear travelling tales from other guests. However, if this is not your scene you can easily enjoy the canaps and your drink in a more private area of the bar.
